no. not normal.
go to a&e you might have broken something.
good luck.

fatoneatthegym · 11/01/2019 17:19

Sorry but I think you need to have an x-ray. Is there someone with you who can help you get to a hospital?

BikeRunSki · 11/01/2019 17:20

Not normal, I agree with pp, sounds like you may have broken something.

Go to A+E it needs checking out

WhoKnewBeefStew · 11/01/2019 17:21

Go to a&e, my lodger fell down the stairs backwards and it turns out he’d fractured two vertebra in his neck (sorry not trying to scare you), get yourself checked out

Loopylou6 · 11/01/2019 17:23

I just googled and if it's a broken rib, they won't do anything apparently, I can move my shoulder blade

they will advise you on physio and give you painkillers for broken ribs been there done that
go

PurpleWithRed · 11/01/2019 17:27

Whether you’ve done soft tissue damage or fractured something it needs to be assessed so you can go about healing it properly. Go to minor injuries (check they have X-ray first) or hospital.

Jaxhog · 11/01/2019 17:30

A&E. Then you'll know for sure.

I've fallen down twice onto my tailbone. Very painful, but just bruised as it turned out. Went to A&E both times and they Xrayed me and were fine about it. Bruised bones can be extremely painful.

Loopylou6 · 11/01/2019 18:30

Is it worth seeing the gp first? Maybe they'll know if an xray is necessary?

OP posts:
CurlsLDN · 11/01/2019 18:33

No, since the gp won't have x-ray eyes.

A&e is for accidents and emergencies. This was an accident, and you need to be checked over by those with the correct equipment to do so. just go!

Haworthia · 11/01/2019 18:35

Even if they “can’t do anything” for broken ribs, it would be helpful to have an x ray and get your hands on some decent pain relief. Go to A&E before the Friday drinks start arriving.

CurlsLDN · 11/01/2019 18:37

Actually I'd say that seeing the gp would be wasting their time, as they won't be able to say it isn't broken, and if they do think it might be broken they won't be able to check, so in that way it's less of an NHS time waste to go straight to A&E, if you see what I mean?

SpoonBlender · 11/01/2019 18:41

They'll just send you to A&E. Go.

Crackedvase · 11/01/2019 18:43

Just go. I didnt and walked around with a broken vertebra for 11 weeks. The knock on effect are sublux kneecaps and a leg length difference. Take care, I hope it's not serious but best to check it out xx

babysharkah · 11/01/2019 18:44

Just go. If it is a broken rib at least they can give you decent painkillers. It could potentially perforate your lung so bear that in mind.

3luckystars · 11/01/2019 18:45

No, pain when you breath is not normal.

Good luck.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 11/01/2019 18:45

Ooh no, if it's a broken rib they can at least advise you that you can/can't do x, y and z and also check that it's nothing more serious. Get yourself to A&E.

Nacreous · 11/01/2019 18:50

They can also give local anaesthetic patches for broken ribs to reduce the pain so you can sleep and heal.

CormoranStrike · 12/01/2019 15:23

Any update op?

Silvercatowner · 12/01/2019 15:35

Cracked rib - no, not much they can do. Broken, displaced rib poking into your lungs - potentially life threatening and plenty they can do.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 12/01/2019 15:38

A&E. You need your spine checked. It sounds like a broken rib but these types of injuries can often mask the pain of damage to your spinal column.

Loopylou6 · 12/01/2019 17:13

Hi everyone, dh insisted I go to A&E today, the doctor examined me and asked lots of questions, listened to my chest, he said it will be muscle damage and probably cracked ribs. Told me to just carry on with painkillers and heat pads. Thank you all for advice
