Typing this enroute to the hospital in an ambulance. DD was born last week is EBF, she was feeding this evening before her nap as usual, she looked a bit uncomfortable so I burped her over my shoulder and then latched her on to the other boob to continue. She then started moving away , screaming, sort of gasping as if she couldn’t breathe, crying and spitting saliva off her mouth. I tried patting her but she only got more agitated. We rang 999 and are on our way to emergency. She doesn’t have a temp and other signs seem ok, she vomited and is sleeping now, she also had lot of mucus from her nose. Any idea what might’ve caused this? I’ve fed her with no issues in the past, I’m really scared.

I'm sure it's just mucus or sometimes breast milk even curdles a bit and comes out as lumps, kind of looks like cottage cheese..
Hope u and baby are ok Thanks
Always better to be safe than sorry with such a small baby xx

mugalug · 10/01/2019 17:39

Is your let down really strong? My DS used to 'choke' on it every time until HV advised me to latch him on after let down.

A week after birth your milk will be in full force now so that may explain it.

Hope all is ok.

Put your phone away

Your are heading to a building filled with medical professionals. They will help and advise

Foxyscarf · 10/01/2019 17:44

Well said Kiki

jellymum1704 · 10/01/2019 17:45

She’s fast asleep now, I feel so guilty and helpless, we’re waiting to be seen by triage. She was in agony poor mite, screaming and panicked, she’s looking much more settled after the vomit.

Might be best to ask the trained medics rather than mumsnet?

Redglitter · 10/01/2019 19:22

Youre in an ambulance with trained paramedics en route to hospital and your first thought is to post on MN?? Seriously??

Speak to one of the blooming paramedics

NOTthepinkranger · 10/01/2019 19:36

Get off your phone and give attention to your child Confused

DoingMyBest2010 · 10/01/2019 19:43

there are some not so nice comments on here - this new mum was clearly very distressed and was more than anything probably looking for reassurance. She's only been a mum for seven days. Give her a break.

Schuyler · 10/01/2019 19:45

She is getting medical attention now, focus on that. You may not get good advice here but you will from a healthcare professional.

Jackshouse · 10/01/2019 19:47

There are definitely some unkind people on here tonight.

Your baby is happily sleeping and will be closely monitored. You have had a massive scare so be kind to yourself.

jellymum1704 · 10/01/2019 19:47

Thank you for your replies. I panicked as I had no idea what was happening and needed some reassurance on my way, couldn’t speak to anyone else. We’re bck home now, doctor said she probably choked a bit on the milk as my milk has started coming in and to just continued as normal.

I'm so glad she's ok. Hope you get some sleep tonight, that must have been quite a scare.Flowers

FadedRed · 10/01/2019 20:23

That must have very scary for you, Op.
So pleased to see things turned out ok.
When you have a minute then download the Red Cross first aid apps onto your phone and have a look through them, especially the Babies and children one. Might help to raise your confidence.

Glad she's OK.
But really? You were in the back of an ambulance with paramedics and you are typing on your phone to mumsnet? That's weird.

Jamhandprints · 10/01/2019 20:37

My 6 month old often choked on my milk. It is awful. :-( You can try feeding in a more reclined position, with baby on top of you, to help baby manage the fast flow. Flowers

GalacticChickenShit · 10/01/2019 21:26

I panicked as I had no idea what was happening and needed some reassurance on my way, couldn’t speak to anyone else

What about the paramedic/technician that was beside you?

U2HasTheEdge · 10/01/2019 21:34

There are definitely some unkind people on here tonight.

Well, It is strange to ask MN for advice when OP was in the back of an ambulance with paramedics, going to a place with medically trained staff. It just wouldn't cross my mind to post on MN when I am in the back of an ambulance for advice when I am actually with people who can give me answers. I guess we are all different.

OP, glad your baby is fine.
