Do your kids know that Justin is Mr Tumble?

My partner unintentionally broke the news to my 7 year old dd that Justin does Mr Tumble and all the other characters in Something Special. She had no idea. Is my 7 year old unusual in this respect? As my partner was flabbergasted that she didn't realise. He thinks that surely all children know this. I think he is being a bit presumptuous. Would be interested to know what others think!

At 3 fair enough, but I'm a bit Shock and Confused at 7 year olds.

But we have always played a game of "who else does that actor play?" With DD, and she has got quite good at recognising where else she has seem them and what character they act.

I quite liked watching Mr Tumble not in that way you weirdos and his teaching of Makaton, but DD was banned from watching Justin's House because his prancing about pretending to be a rock star at every opportunity gave me the creeps

I could think of far more shocking things than “kids are different” Hmm

A friend used to own a shop and Justin Fletcher came in. Friend had no idea, but a small child also in the shop knew exactly who he was and got very excited...

That's the thing, though, isn't it? It's learned behaviour not to know they're the same. That's why people with 2 year olds are saying their children can see it's the same person (because the 2 year old hasn't yet figured out there's a convention that different clothes make someone on TV into a different person). The older children have internalised that without realising, and they don't even know they've done it.

It's the same with Father Christmas. I've seen several very tiny ones simply be confused why daddy/uncle Tim/whoever is wearing a funny beard.

It’s quite an interesting difference between children. We have a friend whose DD was absolutely convinced that Santa visited her familiy’s pre- Christmas party every year.

My D.C. even at age 3 yo could tell it was the girl’s Dad and were always amazed that she didn’t twig.

I asked DS 7 if Justin was Mr Tumble, he said yes, I asked if he was all the characters in Gigglebiz, he said no! Xmas Grin

I can see how he got the idea for Gigglebiz from the Fast Show.

Sarah my DS 7 might be quite unusual then, he's got quite a rep at school for "unmasking" Father Christmas! One year: "it's Gary!" Next year: "it's Kev!" This year: "it's a random person or one of Kev's friends!" It was actually Kev's dad! I now tell him not to tell the little ones! Xmas Grin

The other week when CBeebies was showing all the pantos etc, Mr Tumble came on stage in a suit and my 7yr old goes "He looks like Justin!!" Me and DH just looked at each other like Shock and DH mouthed to me "She still doesn't know?!" We genuinely thought she would have worked it out ages ago, she's eagle eyed and very perceptive.

HappyandShiny that's what my dp said, he couldn't fathom how she didn't know! Also slightly jealous of you meeting Andy Day Grin

My daughter is older now but was adamant that they were different people. She knew because Mr Tumble has a red nose and Justin doesn't!

Grin. He was very charming (and very tall)
