Job Advice - underpaid and overworked

I don't want to be too outing here but I am struggling to find a way to discuss this at work.

I have a role where I'm a direct line manager. I am responsible for a whole team.
The person before me was employed on a temp basis and had the same job role as me.

The difference is they had a different title and more pay.

So for example (I've used different terms) :
my title - customer service lead
Previous person (who was male) - customer service manager.
Paid £6k more than me and had more holidays.

I tried to approach my employer about it but they said I knew what I was signing when offered the role.

I don't want to rock the boat too much as I don't want to lose my job. I just want it to be fair.

Does anyone have any advice?

Why did the other person leave? Why didn't they apply for the permanent job?

They weren't offered it, the contract was terminated and a new role was created which was sold as a less senior role but it isn't in any way.

Sounds like they've rehashed the role and job description in order to save themselves money to be honest. They've terminated his position and created a new position which you applied for and I'm not sure you've got any grounds to challenge that decision.

You could ask for a salary increase/review. When did you last have a pay rise?

I've read previously on MN that temps have to come in adn hit the ground running, so they need 'better' people, and they tend to get more pay to attract them.

OTOH the way to get negotiate money is to demonstrate the value that you bring to the business. Compare salaries with other similar roles.
