What would you do with a day off?

I'm a SAHM and unexpectedly have a 'day off' on Saturday - DH will be home with the kids and I can do whatever I want. The only catch is I'm completely broke so it can't cost anything! Shame it's so cold or I would happily sit in a park with a book for a few hours.

I was hoping to catch up with friends or family but it's so last minute anyone local is busy, and I can't afford train fare to get to anyone further away.

So I need some inspiration - what would your perfect day off involve?

Sit on the settee/ in bed with a book if it is too cold for the park? I would do that or catch up on the TV programmes I have recorded and not had time to watch. And sleep.

Can your DH take the kids out for at least half the day so you can relax at home for some of it?

adaline · 10/01/2019 09:42

I would get DH to take the kids to the park or something so I could have a lie in, then maybe a walk somewhere nice?

Do you have a library that's open on a Saturday? Somewhere warm to read at least?

Fashionista101 · 10/01/2019 10:14

Hmmm take a flask of coffee and go for a walk? Then the library for a book and read?

shpoot · 10/01/2019 11:02

Do you want to go out or stay home alone?

Out - I would go to a cosy pub with a fire and read (and hopefully find enough money for a drink!) Do you have a penny jar you can cash in?

Or go for a long walk then go sit somewhere warm and read.

In - long, hot bath with face mask. Paint my nails and then read my book in bed in absolute silence!

If you have a library it may well open Saturday (our local one does) take a flask of coffee and a small pack lunch, sit and read a book at least it will be warm.

Have a bubble bath, with favourite music on?

I know you say it can’t cost anything but if you’ve already got the ingredients it’s still free you could make your favourite sweet treat and have it all for yourself!

Probably sit there in disbelief and business as usual Grin

ewchoc · 10/01/2019 13:17

Thanks all - would love to stay home but toddler is potty training and I don't think DH will dare to take him out for too long.

Library or cosy pub both sound very appealing! Going to look into those options I think

Ok, I'd suggest DH even take them out for an hour first thing so you can have a peaceful breakfast and get ready in peace. Then take a flask of tea to the library for a while. Is there somewhere you know that you can sit to have a sandwich (pre packed to save cash)?
Could you afford a few pounds for a swim at your local pool in the afternoon?
