Any Beaver leaders on here?

I have just sat and sewn on four badges - three awards and a challenge badge.

All in the right place.

Except I've held the jumper up and the challenge badge is on the piss...

I know full well that my 7yr old DD is going to crucify me as soon as she sees it, but is it really going to bring great shame on my family if I send her to beavers with a wonky badge?!

Trying to decide whether I can face removing it and start again, or if I should just tell her to put up with it...

Hmm... not a problem in itself, but usually other challenge badges are sewn next to the first in a pattern so then they will all be a bit wonky 😁

Isn’t it too far in the middle as well?

ineedaholidaynow · 09/01/2019 19:34

Not a Beaver leader but a former Beaver parent. At various times over DS's scouting career, he is now in Explorers, he has had a few wonky badges! Once he got more than one Challenge badge I did try and straighten them up, otherwise the wonkiness just seemed to get worse and was more noticeable.

Instead of you resewing the badge you could always get DD to sew it on, the any wonkiness can be blamed on her!

Thanks all - so the consensus is that it will need correcting but it can wait until she gets another challenge badge 🤣

Also in my experience Beavers don't tend to stand still for very long so no-one may notice the wonkiness Grin

WeakAsIAm · 09/01/2019 19:50

Yep wonky beavers/cubs/scout badges this is my life.
I usually pin the badges in place first take a look at them and then sew leaving the pins in place until finished.
I do not envy you one little bit, you are doing a grand job, tip tears make your pins rust so try not to cry over the jumper hth 😁

Just hope you haven't sewn it all the way through the jumper (not that I have ever done that, and DS wondered why he couldn't put the jumper on Blush)

Nunyabusiness · 09/01/2019 19:59

@ineedaholidaynow I suffered that fate many times when I was a scout myself, so I managed to avoid it on this occasion Smile

@WeakAsIAm it was less crying, more swearing!

On the subject of sewing all the way through, especially sleeves, let me share my recent brainwave (no doubt obvious to others but not to me!) - stick a piece of cardboard down the sleeve to act as a barrier. A revelation to me as a dodgy sewer!
