Is judo a good sport for 5 year old DD?

DD has a presentation from a judo coach at school yesterday.

They do classes at the school at lunch time one day a week and DD is very keen to try it.

I know absolutely nothing about Judo so I'm hoping there may be some people on here with knowledge.

Also, the price is £63 (including kit hire) per term so we pay 3 times a year and it's a 30 minute lesson. Does this sound about right?

Thanks for your help :)

I did Judo from around age 5 to about 14. It was great. It got me active and instilled qualities such as respect, empathy, being a good team player and sportsmanship. It was great for confidence too.

Price wise that sounds very reasonable. I’d say go for it if she’s keen!

All 3 of my Dcs did judo from a similar age. It helps develop respect and discipline and the best thing, according to my Dcs is it teaches you to fall over and not hurt yourself, very important on the rugby pitch later on.

It’s a brilliant sport. I’d definitely recommend it.

The price is more than we pay but if it’s a good club then go for it.

How many lessons in a term? 12? At £63 that sounds very reasonable. My two DDs did kickboxing for a few years from age 5 and it helped them with fitness, confidence, discipline, following instructions and all sorts of good things.

Thanks for the insight everyone. I should have mentioned, the classes are only half an hour, with it being at lunch time. Does that price still seem okay?

Thanks for your help all, that's her booked in to start! She's the most typically girly girl on planet Earth so I'm looking forward to this maybe bringing out another side to her Smile
