Frugal pleasures

I thought it might be helpful to share some free/cheap pleasures to see us through January.

I’ve just rediscovered the pleasure of a hot water bottle, after getting a gift of one at Christmas. We used them a lot as children but I’d forgotten how nice it is to have warm toes watching the telly.

A cuddle
A long run across the moors
A hot bath

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 11/01/2019 10:38

Ooo yes @Villa - a lovely massage from DH (with some sort of lovely and smelly lotion too :D )
And a good book!

Cleaning out the food cupboards ( throwing out out of date stuff, anti baccing shelves ).

Filling up the bird feeders and watching all the different types come down to feed.

Starting a new book.

A bubbly bath with candles.

A walk in the woods/by the sea with the dogs.

Macaroni Cheese/Fish pie Night.

Antiques Roadshow on a Sunday.

Love this. There is something truly joyful about taking time to appreciate the small things.

For me, it’s that I’ve finally got a nighttime skin care routine that I actually enjoy doing —and therefore do regularly rather than going to bed in my make up—

I have reusable wipes and coconut oil and that’s it and I love it every night!

Surely letting food get out of date and then chucking it is the very opposite of frugal?

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 11/01/2019 11:45

Yes @Howls ! Though buying food and letting it go out of date is not very frugal, I DO get a thrill from throwing/giving things away!

Getting rid of ancient kitchen gadgets (like a potato ricer/spagetti spoon/dogey tin openers), or clearing out the book shelves, or giving away old clothes which I am never going to fit into again and should give up trying.

Yes it isn't very frugal to have out of date food in the pantry/storecupboard but it happens, usually herbs/spices and the odd packet of crackers.

I made fairy cakes the other day. Simple and delicious and the act of making them takes me back to when my grandmother used to bake with me.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 11/01/2019 12:43

Don't think that this is frugal - but I do enjoy using scotch/magic tape rather than normal sellotape.
One of life's little luxuries...
(and I was reminded of it by this meme)

When I walked the dog this morning I took some wild bird seed in my pocket, and left some at points on the way. On the way home, it had all gone, which made me inexplicably happy!

My haven is my study, which houses my laptop / printer. Finally sorted out all the admin which was in the intray and filed it away. Bought a £3 diffuser from TK Maxx and the room is now the sanctuary I wanted it to be!

The long sigh my cat does when she really settles down to sleep next to me. A few minutes later and she is sparko.

The new bbc sounds app is a treasure trove of brilliant dramas, comedies, quizzes, plays. And it's free. Highly recommended

great idea for a thread.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/01/2019 17:14

Nice thread.

A walk with a flask of tea or coffee and some veggie sausage rolls/cake - I'm turning into my grandad!

Pot of Earl Grey

A bath with bubbles and a book

Fairy lights in the fireplace

Daffodils

Playing music whilst chopping vegetables - gotta love a bit of kitchen dancing!

Meeting a friend for a coffee

Putting on hand cream / foot cream and taking time to really massage it in
