What's your most pointless habit?

[One of!] Mine is that every day I try and take my socks off without lifting my foot fully off the floor

(so I tiptoe to get the heels off; then rock back to pull them from the toes)

Mn

That's hardly exclusive to you though Grin

Oversharing on the internet due to a deep inner loneliness that begs for a connection it never finds.

HeartyLaugh · 09/01/2019 13:43

Worrying. It doesn't change the outcome. What will be, will be. It makes me miserable and I have terrible anxiety. Sad

Malibucyprus · 09/01/2019 13:49

Same here @HeartyLaugh I am a massive worrier, and also have awful anxiety, such a waste of time, and totally pointless.

CatnissEverdene · 09/01/2019 13:51

Worrying. I was diagnosed with Tietze Syndrome last year and ever since have had awful anxiety. I can feel my chest tightening and it's awful. It gets me nowhere and I wish there was an off button.

I've got an awful habit too of going outside with no shoes on... and ruining pairs of socks.

Insomnibrat · 09/01/2019 13:58

I purposefully wear odd socks every day and have for years. I worry I'll have a bad day if I wear a matching pair

bringincrazyback · 09/01/2019 14:08

Locking the car door before I go to pay for petrol, but not bothering to close the window if it's open. No, I don't know why either. Confused

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 09/01/2019 14:10

Probably the Book of Face and MN Grin

Considering the feelings of inanimate objects, and rotating their use so that each gets to feel useful and fulfil its destiny.

It's literally the most pointless and stupid thing I have a habit of that I can think of, and I was just pondering its pointlessness when carefully putting away clean plates underneath the ones already in the cupboard, so that the ones already there don't end up feeling ignored.

I do worry that I'm getting it wrong, though. Say, underwear. I have new and shiny underwear that's become my favourite, but I rotate the older ones into use. But what if the old ones are tired? What if they'd rather rest in the cosy closet during their autumn years, and leave the bum protection to the new comers?

I need to get out more...

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 09/01/2019 14:27

Every night when I leave work I put my landline desk phone in my drawer so it's off my desk. I hate clutter and it annoys me just being there all asymmetrical and twatty even though I am not there to see it.

"Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but doesn't get you anywhere"

Laying out DS' uniform in the evening for the following night. Saves me sod all time at all. But I have to do it.

I also can't go to bed without checking in on DS before I go up. even if I've checked on him 5 mins before.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 09/01/2019 16:29

I leave my bed to air all day so when I'm ready to go to bed, I make the bed, have a wee and then get into the bed I made 2 minutes prior.

I also get into bed with my socks on and take them off before I close my eyes.
But I only take them off with by using the other foot (I.E pulling them off using my toes)

Agree with a PP about making sure everything gets used in a fair order - nothing is being left out in my home thank you very much.

I think my most pointless habit is trying to keep the house tidy though. It looks spotless for about 30 seconds and then the deluge of plastic and fluff comes traipsing down from DDs room again.
Oh and buying fruit

Knittink · 09/01/2019 16:33

BadlyAgedMemes - there's something kind of adorably bonkers about that! Some people don't even care much about how other people feel, never mind inanimate objects!

CallMeSirShotsFired · 09/01/2019 19:19

I used to feel so bad when my teddies missed out on hugs before I went to bed. I used to line them all up to make sure each one got equal fuss.
