Do you keep butter out of the fridge?

I absolutely love real butter and hate all the crap that's put into spreads, but I am always wary of leaving out of the fridge. Does anyone have any knowledge, is it OK to be stored on the side in a relatively cold kitchen?

Yes 😉

InternetRandomer · 09/01/2019 09:48

Yes. Always. Even in the summer. We use a lot of butter though do it doesn’t hang around. Easy way of reducing plastic use too.

TheVonTrappFamilySwingers · 09/01/2019 09:48

Yes I do - I place half a 250g block at a time in my cleaned butter dish and leave it out. We usually go through that in 3-4 days. It is completely fine and our kitchen isn't particularly cold.

By that I mean instead of buying a pot of spreadable

JanuarySnowdrops · 09/01/2019 09:49

Yes. It's fine.

Sexnotgender · 09/01/2019 09:51

Yes, however my kitchen is freezing and I still can’t spread it!

I gave in and bought spreadable butter yesterday but got president as it’s got no oil in it.

Yulebealrite · 09/01/2019 09:52

Yes. The only time there is a problem is in the summer when it melts.

singleascheeseslice · 09/01/2019 09:54

Yes, in a butter dish, just like my grandma used to Smile.

megletthesecond · 09/01/2019 09:55

Yes. In a butter dish.
It's fine even in the summer, and my house is hot.

Ifailed · 09/01/2019 09:55

In a butter dish, yes. Sometimes if it gets very hot it goes in the fridge during the day.

Jitters22 · 09/01/2019 09:56

Yep, I keep mine on the worktop in a butter dish.

if it gets really hot in Summer, I've got a cool dark cupboard by the front door, so I pop it in there.

It seems pretty obvious, but always wash the butter dish every time you replace the block.

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/01/2019 09:57

Yup, in a butter dish in the shade. On hot days I cover the dish with a tea towel. It was fine in the very hot summer.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 09/01/2019 10:00

Yes, ours lives in a butterdish in the kitchen never had a problem with it.

PeaQiwiComHequo · 09/01/2019 10:01

yes it's fine. I keep half a packet out at all times, shut away in the bread-bin in case a fly gets in.

vickibee · 09/01/2019 10:01

Yes in a dish in the kitchen
I agree op in hating margarine

Sitranced · 09/01/2019 10:04

Yes, you'll know if its gone rancid.

MeetOnTheledge · 09/01/2019 10:15

Yes, apart from in the very hottest days of summer.

Starlight90 · 09/01/2019 10:20

You cannot spread butter from the fridge. I never keep it there for this very reason.

PinkHeart5914 · 09/01/2019 10:22

Yes in a butter dish

Davros · 09/01/2019 10:22

We leave it out in a clean butterdish with a lid or I buy M&S spreadable as it didn't have any nasty shit in it. I must check they haven't changed it or get President

Sexnotgender · 09/01/2019 10:23

President and Kerrygold are both made with single cream rather than oil to make them spreadable.

CoffeeMad18 · 09/01/2019 10:26

Yes, otherwise I can't spread it.

FreeButtonBee · 09/01/2019 10:35

Yes kerrygold in a ceramic butter dish; whole block most of the year although generally half a block in summer (particularly when it was like last summer!) - you would know if it's gone off. Rancid butter smells awful!

FreeButtonBee · 09/01/2019 10:36

Although there is a special place in hell for those people who put the butter still in the wrapper into the butter dish - partic into the dirty butter dish. Angry

SpoonBlender · 09/01/2019 10:44

No. As a child I perfected the "translucently thin slice" technique and just do that. They're so thin - half mm or so - that they warm up to soft as they go from butter block to bread.
