Which Premier Inn in London?

We are clueless! Going in April the day after our wedding for two nights, sort of a mini honeymoon 😂. We ideally want to be near tube/public transport. Would like to see the usual touristy stuff and be quite close to the main "nightlife" so we can have a night out. Was looking at County Hall - does anyone know if this is fairly central? Thank you for any help!

We stayed in a great one right in LeicesterSquare, literally 30 seconds from everything. There is also one in Covent Garden that is pretty good but is a hub so is small. County Hall is near Waterloo so close to the sights. Everywhere is easy to get to but not sure if it's near nightlife as such but the one in Leicester Square would be. Everywhere is closer to walk to than you think also.

ShalomJackie · 08/01/2019 20:06

There is one near Tower Bridge too. I would probably just chose the one most convenient to the station you are arriving at in London assuming you are coming into town by train.

Needallthesleep · 08/01/2019 20:07

I’d be tempted by one of the Southwark ones for ease of getting around and proximity to touristy bits and nightlife.

County Hall is great. On top of the London Eye, Houses of Parliament, River cruises etc.
We stayed twice there and also at the Premier Inn opposite, which was good too.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 08/01/2019 20:09

Yes, County Hall is central.

I would go to the one at Bank Side (nearer London Bridge).

Cherry321 · 08/01/2019 20:11

County Hall or Blackfriars are pretty good.

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/01/2019 20:12

I would stay in Travelodge Covent Garden instead of PI.

CalmDownPacino · 08/01/2019 20:14

Argh can't decide now! Leicester Square seems slap bang in the middle of the action but is more expensive, yet if we are at County Hall we'll be paying for tubes and taxis I assume.

Thanks for feedback Smile

Depends what you want to do in the evening. A trip to the theatre at the Globe, National, Menier or Bridge, and then a walk back along the river stopping off at Oxo tower or Sea Containers or RFH for cocktails would be lovely, weather permitting.

sluj · 08/01/2019 20:19

You can walk to Leicester square in 10 minutes from county hall and a lovely walk too across the Thames footbridge and through Trafalgar Square . I'd definitely go for County Hall

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 08/01/2019 20:22

COunty Hall is pretty close to the Eye iirc so pretty central....lots of lovely walking along the river!

Have a look at the HUB section....some of the rooms are small...but some of them have the bigger rooms ...lovely 6/7 foot beds, nice showers

we have stayed in the Covent Garden hub....literally spitting distance of Trafalgar Square, not certain if they have the bigger rooms there though, why they tag it as CG I really do not know!

The Kings Cross one does, and it is down a street about 200 yds from the front of the station...lots of buses and tube choices from there. And the canal is really close too, we had a lovely walk along there to Camden.
The Shoreditch one is nice too...very hipstertastic area!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 08/01/2019 20:27

My vote is for one on the South Bank. Quick to walk across one of the bridges to the West End but nicer to be on that side of the river to walk along the river, go to the Globe or the Tate or the National Theatre, London Eye, eat at one of the places overlooking the river, get a river taxi to Greenwich...

ejk10 · 08/01/2019 20:28

The nicest premier inn in London that I've stayed in is Old Street. 2 stops on Northern Line to Kings Cross so central without being slap bang in the middle. We have stayed there at least 4 times and I much prefer it to the more central ones. Tube is a 3 min walk away and Shoreditch is 5 mins down the road.

E20mom · 08/01/2019 20:28

County hall is s great location right next to the river, the London eye and Big Ben. I'm a Londoner and I'd choose that every time over Leicester square

Frankiestein402 · 08/01/2019 20:29

Piccadilly, Leicester Square, trafalgar Square, Green Park, Whitehall, westminster- if you can walk its much easier than tube/bus over that kind of distance, Oxford St might be one you'd want to take public transport one way

Southbank is an extremely pleasant walk most times of the day - County Hall to Borough Market takes in an awful lot with plenty of food options (including a diversion across the wobbly Bridge to St Paul's) - personally I'd prefer County Hall to Leicester Square every time - latter only OK for a show nearby or the lego shop imho.

CalmDownPacino · 08/01/2019 20:33

Thank you all, much appreciated. We are currently sat looking at maps and trying to decide.

if it's just a couple of days I'd stay by the river and walk, walk walk...there's loads to keep you busy, lots of places to eat and drink, all the bridges

if you go on the train you can get some bargain vouchers from daysoutguide ...loads of two for one

we did the Shard last time and at £30 a pop the two for ones really save you lots enough to lash out on cocktails at the top
the river boats are good too, especially if the weather is difficult ...too hot, too cold, too rainy...and they are also on the 2for1

sluj · 08/01/2019 20:44

What do you want to do on your break? Leicester Square is central to shopping and busyness but I still think I'd rather stay on the South Bank at County Hall so you get the daily Westminster view and river life. The South Bank is my preferred place for a nice coffee nowadays with lots going on. You can easily walk to Covent Garden, Leicester Square and all the busy sights but enjoy your evenings round the river. I worked at County Hall for some time so I might be biased but most others on here seem to agree. If it's cheaper too, what's not to like?

NumbersLetters · 08/01/2019 20:47

I vote for County Hall. The very best view of all of London is from the middle of Waterloo Bridge, at night.

Instead of the Shard i would make for the 10th floor viewing gallery of the Tate Modern. Not as high, of course, but the view is outstanding. And it’s free. And there’s loads of great free art to see as well.

potatoscone · 08/01/2019 20:49

I would go for one with the 'new rooms' logo on their website Grin

I have stayed a few times in various London PI's and Kings Cross (post upgrade) comes out on top.

Freddiemercurysjeans · 08/01/2019 20:55

Not sure which station you are coming into but we normally stay at the one near Kings Cross - it is 5 mins walk from the train, can drop bags and then get off into London. You can leave your bags on day of departure and pick them up just before you get back on the train. Its just across the road from Euston tube station.

CherryLip · 08/01/2019 20:56

Recently stayed in the Holborn one. Great area. Also stayed at Bankside. Love the area around Borough/South Bank.

twilightcafe · 08/01/2019 20:59

You can either get the RV1 bus or walk from Covent Garden to Waterloo or Bankside.

AwkwardSquad · 08/01/2019 21:05

We’ve stayed at County Hall, it’s a great location and as pp have said the walk along Southbank towards Southwark is great. We also stayed at one of the Southwark ones (the one that’s closest to Borough Market) and that was fine, small but in a much livelier area. I preferred County Hall tho!

CalmDownPacino · 08/01/2019 21:15

We've decided on Leicester Square. We will only really get one full day so think we will be happier in the thick of it so to speak! Thanks very much for all the advice Smile
