Is 'back bedroom' a euphemism for something?

Years ago I read a poem in a childrens poetry book. From what I can remember, the poem was about a child asking their teachers what they wore for bed.

The final verse was the child asking the french teacher, she said something like "Zut alors! Don't tell anyone but... I sleep in the back bedroom!"

My mum tutted and said it was really inappropriate Confused So I've wondered on and off over the years as to what it actually means!

Even Urban Dictionary doesn't have an entry for "back bedroom".

So presumably your mum spends a lot of time thinking about her own private collection of euphemisms for anal sex.

Maybe in the nude?

Back bedroom in French is chambre arrière, aka rear chamber, so I'm guessing it's definitely a euphemism for something.

Yes but if the child is asking "what do you wear for bed?" the teacher isn't going to say "I take it utb", is she? That's not even answering the question!

Maybe back bedroom as in she slept naked in that room as it was not overlooked? Only thing I can think of

I remember this poem! I can’t remember where I read it but I remember reading it and feeling confused. Reading it again I can only assume she’s implying she sleeps naked... back bedroom a clumsy link to back door > backside?

Only at Center Parcs.....

EmmaGrundyForPM · 09/01/2019 07:32

I hope it doesn't mean anything. In our house the back bedroom is where we dry the clothes.....

You lot are filthy Shock
The rhyme is meant to be with “rude” so yes, as Gremlins says the expectation is that she is going to say “nude” .

Mumsnet has successfully taken a children’s poem to a whole new level.

Oh, horrible thought SpoonBlender! I presumed it meant somewhere discreet, out of the way, so one could wear anything (or nothing), in private. In a jokey way.

Now I am in pain at the thought. Won't sleep tonight (it is currently 0740 but still won't sleep tonight, will have the 'horrors').

I think I need to read this poem again. What's it actually called?

I thought that meant anal sex. There is a funny line in Julian Clary's book, The Bolds, where he refers to the back bedroom. My husband and I laughed and had to explain it to one of our kids who would not stop asking why it was funny.
