It’s a work uniform with a logo but it’s huuuuuge despite being the smallest ones, it comes half way down my thighs, sleeves are over my hands and it’s just massive! Iv tried putting it on a hot wash and in the dryer a few times but hasn’t made a difference. Any tips??

Maybe you could try washing again on a very hot wash, then ironing it dry with a very hot iron? But I would guess it's made of polyester and if so I'm not sure it's going to be possible to shrink it by any means.

I sympathise because the uniform where I used to work had horrible trousers with inordinately tiny waists, so despite being a 6/8 I needed the 14 which fit at the waist but were way too big over the hips. You might have to just suffer like I did!

I don't think you can shrink fleece fabric. Could you have the side and sleeve seams taken in by someone?

Plexie · 08/01/2019 14:20

Assuming it's synthetic, it won't shrink. And beware using a very hot iron as you risk melting the polyester and it sticking to your iron - ruining both the fleece and the iron.

Can't shrink a fleece. Turn up in front of HR and ask if they can do anything?

flourella · 08/01/2019 14:30

Oh, yeah, I didn't consider that the polyester could melt. I don't even own an iron so don't have to worry about these things.

Taking it up at the hem and in at the sides will likely be the only option, but fleece is relatively bulky so having a large seam and hem allowance within it would look really noticeable and it would have to be trimmed to size. I can't picture fleece fraying, though, so you wouldn't need an overlocker to protect seams, I don't think. Still a pain in the arse though and might not turn out well with regard to width of shoulders, etc.

You can’t shrink fleece & anything too hot risks melting it! You will have to either sew it/get it altered or live with it

Loserinlove · 08/01/2019 15:16

We don’t have a HR dept, boss isn’t interested as they fit her and most of the others fine as they are a lot bigger than me. I have the smallest size as I rang the company that makes them. Can’t really afford to pay someone to alter it... and I’m not good enough and don’t have a seeing machine. Sad

Cut the bottom and ends of sleeves off, fold them under and pin into place.

Use some iron on tape to stick them together but not with the iron too hot.

Or you could just cut the ends off, leaving it all a bit longer than you need just in case it will need sewing later, and see if it rolls up which would make a kind of hem. Fleece doesn't tend to fray, but can roll up a little bit.

I have seen fleece glued, possibly a superglue, so possibly dots of glue on a hem might work. Not too much as it goes hard.

Forgot to add, you will probably have to live with the width, but if you can adjust the length it might not be so bad.

It has a toggle in the hem and my boss said i should just pull that in.... I then just look like a weeble Hmm it’s not just vanity about it looking stupid, it’s actually uncomfortable sat at my desk as it all bunches up.
