Can someone explain to me in words I can understand what is going on. Was the case dismissed?

Was it for technical reasons?

Was he fitted up and it failed?
Is this the end of the matter?

IMO it's a whitewash.

madmum5811 · 08/01/2019 18:17

Jux I am still little wiser.

Alex salmond won his case against how the Scottish Goverment handled the sexual harrassment allegations against him, because he won that he no longer needs the £100,000 he raised from the public, it's now going to be used for charities in Scotland and abroad, if i had donated i'd want my money back not going abroad.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/01/2019 18:22

Is this the end of the matter
Not the end, there is also a police enquiry ongoing.

madmum5811 · 08/01/2019 18:35

He had a go fund me type page?? Shock

This case was about whether or not the process used for the internal Scottish Gov investigation was fair and robust. The Scottish Govt settled because they realised that the person who led the enquiry (a civil servant) had spoken to the complainants before they made a formal complaint; had then established the complaints process; then conducted the process and found Salmond guilty. It left them wide open to claims that the process and the person leading the enquiry were not impartial.
It's not a whitewash. It's an absolute shambles and the person who established and led the enquiry should resign. She completely let down the complainants.
In the meantime, Police Scotland are investigating the complaints. Once they make a decision on whether to proceed or not, the Scottish Govt will decide whether or not to launch a new enquiry. Although God knows how they expect that to be impartial when there has been so much publicity and so many internal leaks from the civil service.

madmum5811 · 08/01/2019 19:23

Fraying so you are saying. There may be another enquiry. Surely there cannot be one. If the police proceed shouldn`t the government step back. If the police do not proceed, why would you need another one.

Still in shock over the fundraising aspect of it all.

Why? I think it's perfectly acceptable. He set up crowd funding and people supported him.
I personally think he is innocent.

madmum5811 · 08/01/2019 21:20

Whisky apart from the fact he is apparently wealthy. It is not becoming for government ministers to do this imo.

*It is not becoming for government ministers to do this imo.

He’s no longer a government minister, mp or msp.

dementedma · 08/01/2019 21:30

The process was found to be flawed so Salmond "won" that part of the proceedings. he has yet to be found either guilty or innocent of the allegations brought against him

Tiscold · 08/01/2019 21:33

Why should he have paid for his legal fundings? If people wanted to support him then that's their decision and i don't see the problem.

The government didn't run a proper investigation and behaved illegally against him so he won the case.

He may or not be guilty of the crime but that doesn't mean we should let others get away with crimes against other people.

PersonaNonGarter · 08/01/2019 21:38

Why do you think k he is innocent, Whisky?

#IBelieveHer

Tiscold · 08/01/2019 21:44

Well #innocentuntilprovenguilty.

The we believe you movement isn't to say the other person isn't innocent, it's to say we're not going to instantly dismiss you. Doesnt mean we hang in an accusers every word and think the other person isn't also to be believed.

Non of us have actually seen the evidence against him have we? So until then he is presumed innocent, unless you're one of those with the no smoke without fire

personanongarter I have met him a fair few times, had lunch with him etc and I just did not get any kind of bad/creepy/pervy/sexual feeling from him. I know I obviously can't say for certain but I would be really shocked if it came out to me true.

Whisky2014 · 08/01/2019 21:58

And i personally think Alex Salmond knew exactly what the outcome of this would be and pre-empted the crowd funding to then give the money to charity.
But that's just me and my opinion.

IMissGin · 08/01/2019 21:58

From what I’ve heard #ibelieveher and wouldn’t be giving him a single penny

PersonaNonGarter · 08/01/2019 21:59

Nah, it’s true. And Sturgeon knows it is. They’ve been very politically close - why do you think she is distancing herself now? She can see what is coming.

Whisky2014 · 08/01/2019 22:01

Well, you can't actually say that for certain. As I say, I'd be shocked if it was true.

dementedma · 08/01/2019 22:05

personally I find him repellent, but that's not to say he's guilty.
He is intelligent and quick witted but has little else in the way of redeeming features and yes, I have met him.

Tiscold · 08/01/2019 22:22

Hpw do you know it is true? If so go to the cops and show the evidence to them.

Again the #webeliveyou movement doesn't mean the accuser is right and the accised is guilty. It is to say we won't dismiss your claims and try find fault in you by saying you were drunk, wearing short clothes etc. #webeliveyou movement shouldn't go against the fundemental belief of innocent until proven guilty.

Otherwise shall we just automatically imprison everyone accused of crime because #webelueveyou.
