Does anyone like January?

I do, it's the sense of a fresh start and the relief of everything being over for a little while. No one wants to do much, and you can just all get back to normal a bit. The dark at both ends of the day is the only bit I don't like- what do you lot think of it?

Its only saving grace is that its not February.

BertieBotts · 08/01/2019 08:03

I like the fresh start aspect and it's usually cold enough to snow unlike Christmas. It's February I hate. Completely miserable and freezing with no redeeming features. And March can fuck off. It's meant to be spring but it's bitter.

I don't mind the darkness in winter, but I hate the cold, wind and damp.

Futureisland · 08/01/2019 08:05

Nope. Mega post Christmas break blues here. I think the problem is that I hate my job at the moment so I didn't want to get back to normal. I want to sleep in and hang about with my family.

MacarenaFerreiro · 08/01/2019 08:08

Love it. Back to normal after the hell of the Christmas tat-fest. Hours of daylight are increasing. Spring is around the corner. Things are on the up, not like that horrendous slide into darkness which is November.

IfNotNowBernard · 08/01/2019 08:10

I like something about every month. January for the reasons stated, February because in mid Feb you start to see tree buds and notice the evenings get lighter. March spring starts for real (contrary to popular belief Spring has nothing much to do with how warm it is it's just stuff starts to grow!) plus the clocks go forward which feels like a weight being lifted.
I don't even mind cold weather and I love those cold clear days in January. The overcast dark days are harder but most of us are lucky enough to have electric light, duvets and hot tea so what's to complain about?!

MarchInHappiness · 08/01/2019 08:11

I really like it, but I love winter. I am not a big fan of Christmas so after the mental month that is December I look forward to chilling, and not having to XYZ.

EssentialHummus · 08/01/2019 08:20

To some extent. We budget carefully for December so seem to start January in good financial health, which is great. And I quite like being back to my normal, healthier way of eating, which went to hell from about 20 December. And it's nice to start thinking about plans for the garden for the upcoming year.

But on the flipside, January with a non-walking 16 month old, when the park is a mudslide and you need to put on 4 layers each to leave the house... not for me.

OnlineAlienator · 08/01/2019 08:27

I love the fresh start and getting back to normal, knowing the says are getting longer. Hate self assessment tho.

Oh yes this is definitely the worst about going back to work and for me, the lack of time to just sort of sit and think about things

I like your thinking of finding something good in every month

I like it. I hate Christmas so always feel relieved when that's over. Much as I enjoy a bit of feasting, it's good to get back to a normal diet and routine. It's the start of the year and a chance to push the reset button and make some new plans. And it's DP's birthday towards the end of the month so I look forward to that. The only thing I hate is how dark it is!

TheDowagerCuntess · 08/01/2019 08:47

I love it. But it's the height of summer here. The mad, franticness of Christmas is over, it's lovely, settled summer weather, and most people are on holiday for at least some of it. Best month of the year.

LowbrowVictoriana · 08/01/2019 09:41

I like January: it feels new and hopeful, and a time to look ahead to spring growth and then summer holidays.
I also like wearing thick coats, and hats and scarves.
I don’t mind the cold or dark.
