Wrong Date Booked for Flights

menztoray · 07/01/2019 18:34

I could cry. Booked flights to Calgary to visit Rockies. Afterwards was doing some reading and the dates I have booked most of the roads in the rockies are closed. The travel agent will not change the flights with Air Canada. I would have to just book flights again and can not afford this.
I know it is a first world problem, but so upset about it.

Most flights can be changed for a fee. If you have your PNR go onto the Air Canada site and enter and it will give you the options and fees for change.
If the flights were only booked in the last 24 hours then they may well change foc if you contact them direct

youwouldthink · 07/01/2019 19:44

Actually just checked my guide for you and Air Canada definitely off a 24 hour window for change of mind, HTH

YesitsJacqueline · 07/01/2019 19:47

If you booked with an agent using a negotiated rate then AC will not touch the booking .
The agent should have made you aware of the ticket conditions before you purchased them - if they did not then you have a case.
Check with the agent to see whether the tickets are changeable.
If within 24 hours they can technically cancel free of charge but not if you agreed, verbally or otherwise, to non changeable non refundable tickets.

The agent has said they will charge us more to change the tickets than just buying new tickets on the right date would cost.

Don't speak to the agent, speak to the airline direct

IWantMyHatBack · 07/01/2019 20:06

Check your booking here. It might be changeable online (for a fee). If you ring them though they might be able to change it FOC

theclockticksslowly · 07/01/2019 20:11

Are there any alternative routes through part of it so you can salvage some of the trip? How long are you there? Could you perhaps see as much of the rockies as you can but get a relatively cheap internal flight to say Vancouver and spend time there - both in the city and the mountains near Vancouver?

menztoray · 07/01/2019 20:16

I sent an email to Air Canada that they ignored, they say on their website that if you have not booked with them, you need to talk to your agent. And if I try and log onto Air Canada site it only says I can not check in yet - only option it gives me.
I knew it was a non refundable ticket, but I am not asking for that. I am asking to change flight details.

Was the reservation in the last 30 days and online? If so you should be able to get a refund under the distance selling act or whatever its called

menztoray · 07/01/2019 20:22

It was yesterday and online

It´s a shame, but the flights are booked and is sounds like there is nothing to be done about it now. So instead, get reading on what else you can do. Or start a new thread asking or recommendations for things to do at the time of year you are going. Okay, you maybe won't get the trip you originally wanted, but you can still have a great trip.

Derma · 07/01/2019 20:24

You need to find the exact Act but I don't think they can refuse. If you paid by credit card contact your bank and see if they can help as well?

ChrisjenAvasarala · 07/01/2019 20:28

@Derma

The distance selling act is no longer called the distance selling act. But anyway, flights and travel were not coveted by the distance selling act, or the now consumer rights act, so there is no cooling off period.

OP needs to refer to the terms and conditions of her booking. If they don't allow a free care swap, then she's not entitled to it.

Derma · 07/01/2019 20:31

Oh shame. Thanks for the correction!

LovesLaboursLost · 07/01/2019 20:34

Try phoning them to speak to an actual human. Which agent was it through?

Soontobe60 · 07/01/2019 20:41

What dates have you booked for?

MrWolfknowsthetime · 07/01/2019 20:46

Did the travel agent know that you planned to visit the Rockies? If so, they have sold you something that is not fit for purpose. I don’t know whether or not that means you have any recourse with the agent though, but it may be worth looking into.

I would expect a travel agent to know about this sort of thing though.

gastropod · 07/01/2019 20:47

Definitely try calling them. I had an issue with Air Canada flights that I had booked with Expedia and Expedia couldn't help. Called Air Canada and they were excellent, sorted the problem immediately and confirmed everything with me by email.

menztoray · 07/01/2019 20:50

Okay thanks will try ringing them.
I booked through TravelUp.

Bombardier25966 · 07/01/2019 20:51

@MrWolfknowsthetime She booked online.

OP the options you have are to keep appealing to Air Canada and to the agent. Neither need to do anything to help you, you've not been missold and you've no right to cancellation, but sometimes if you push enough (politely!) they might do something. Your other option is to find alternative things to do on the trip, take the train perhaps?

notacooldad · 07/01/2019 20:57

If nothing can be done have a look at the alternatives as someone else suggested.
Is it the Trail road that is shut.
I did a quick look on Google, now I know it is refering to 2016 but other people have asked what they could do when the road is shut.

MrWolfknowsthetime · 07/01/2019 21:07

Oh, when she said travel agent I was thinking of the type you actually speak to. I’m old!

m0therofdragons · 07/01/2019 21:35

When are you going? Are they closed due to snow? There are lower ground options with lovely wineries. We're going again in the summer as my db lives in central Calgary.
