Getting to know your baby

Did you know that your baby learns more in their first year of life than in the years thereafter? Your baby learns to reach, grasp, smile, recognise faces and objects, depth perception, early motor skills as well as early social and communication skills among other things? Some research suggests that even number development starts in early infancy as well. We are hoping to build on this research to better understand how children’s understandings develop so that we can ensure that the right teaching will facilitate these early knowledge structures. Furthermore, we hope that, by exploring how early concepts emerge, we will be in a better position to intervene when some children encounter difficulties as they grow older. Our team at the Baby Research Unit (BRU) in Kingston is dedicated to infancy development and we would like to hear from you if you are interested to contribute to our understanding. Presently in the studies developed in the BRU we welcome babies of all ages, from 0 to 12 months! You can get in touch by emailing us at [email protected] or you can check us out on our University website just type ‘’Kingston BRU’’ into an online searchbox to find out more about us!
