So much so it's given me a whole new lease with regards to soup

Yum!

I've recently bought one and am still experimenting.

A couple have been a bit bland so not sure how to give then a bit more flavour.

I just tried one and added a mixed herb pot and that turned out well, so not sure if herb pot or not.

Do you have any soup ideas please?

I've done leek and potato... leeks, spuds and stock. Both DH and DS liked it.

Then I did a leftover one... red lentils, celery, red cabbage, carrot, 1 red pepper and stock. Yum.

I think the key is seasoning - either with salt and pepper or a stock cube/pot.

Hmmm I'm tempted OP!

I have one that everyone has enjoyed. It's my go to soup for flavour and lots of goodness.

2 medium sweet potatoes
2 medium carrots
1 red bell pepper
1 large red onion
1 cup of red lentils
1 veg stock cube
Your preferable herbs (I add a tsp each of rosemary and thyme)

Dice veg into large chunks. Chuck everything in and then cover with water. Blend once soft.

I've only used my slow cooker or a pan on the hob so I'm not sure how you'll have to alter it to make in a soup maker.

For veg or fish soup I season and add Knorr Aromat powder for darker soup maggi liquid seasoning (not the hot one) it seems to add a depth to soup.

I love mine too - this week I've used one of those mixed veg soup bags from the supermarket - it has from what I recall carrots, swede, onion, parsnips, potatoes and herbs in. Then I threw in some extra broccoli and two veg stock pots. Poached some chicken to add afterwards. Having it for lunch today so fingers crossed it tastes ok.

Is there something different about a soup maker rather than us by a saucepan?
Does it have a blending feature?
Thinking of getting one

Sitranced · 07/01/2019 11:34

Im curious about these but never looked into it properly. How does a soup maker differ from using a pan and a stick blender?

Yes I'd like to know that as well.

So I made some soup last week... involved roasting, chopping, cooking - pan, roasting tin, bowl, hand blender, pan and jug blender.

This maker... I chop it up, in it goes with liquid. Press go and in 19 mins it's done. Including the blending @ineedtostopbeingsolazy

I always thought they're just a gadget and a waste of money but god... It's awesome. I got this Morphy Ricards one - It's 1L and does 2 portions. The 1.6 version is the same price.

I set it to go and went off and played with my son for 20 mins instead of stood at the stove!

I was sceptical but was given a soup maker for Christmas. It is less effort than using pan and stick blender because once you've chopped everything and chucked it in, just switch on and it's ready to pour 21 minutes later. So I can wander off and do other jobs. With a pan there's more stirring to brown veg, etc then the blending. While none of that's difficult it demands attention.

cjt110 · 07/01/2019 11:43

@Sunseed I was exactly the same! Convenience. So much more of it with this!

I love my soup maker too. Homemade stock is the key to delicious soup.

To those who don't have one, soup makers have different function buttons for smooth soup, chunky etc. They don't do anything you can't do with a saucepan, wooden spoon and hand held blender, they just make it easy.

They are quick and simple to wash afterwards too.

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/01/2019 11:49

I made lentil and ham yesterday in mine with the last of the previously frozen Christmas gammon. I don't measure exact quantities but I used

Chunks of gammon
About 6 carrots but they were very thin ones
Frozen onion (equivalent to about half an onion)
A mug full of red lentils
2 knorr ham stock cubes
Enough water to bring it to the 'min' line (about 2 pints)

Chucked it all in and used the "smooth" setting. Mine came out perfect but you might need to add extra water if it's too thick.

I make cream of leek with 3 big carrots, a packet of trimmed leeks, 2 chicken stock cubes, a large pinch of mixed herbs and water to the min level. Make using the smooth setting and add a couple of tablespoons of cream when it's finished.

I use my old bottle brush to clean the blender part and wash the jug as normal.
