UK holiday recommendations

topoftheworld1 · 06/01/2019 21:33

This will be my first year of going away as a single mum. I have 2 DC aged 4 and 7.

I really want to take the kids on a nice holiday in the summer, plus am really struggling at the moment and I need something to look forward to.

Can anyone recommend somewhere in the UK that their kids really enjoyed?

I'm thinking UK might be easier for my first time but am really open to suggestions so I can go away and do a bit of research. Just wondered if anyone has any standout holidays?

Has anyone done a farm holiday or similar?

Thanks!

I've always found haven holidays really easy. Loads of stuff to keep the kids occupied.

Where in the UK are you? Do you have a car and how far/long are you looking to travel?

Hoseasons are great. We went on 3 in 2017. All 5 Start Darwin Escape resorts, champagne on arrival & beautiful caravans. Just DD & I, we payed around £140 for a week & £100 for 3 nights.

It was really lovely & we have great memories.

How far do you want to drive?

Tesco etc will deliver to your caravan.

We did Butlins several times when kids were younger. All in one place, free fairground rides for young children. Near a beach if weathers good and entertainment during the day and night suitable for kids. Did a farm holiday in Yorkshire and kids enjoyed it , just be careful around any farm animals - remember to wash hands all the time.

Tip - Dont take lots of clothes. Take colouring stuff, wellies, books, stickers & a fleece each.

We sat outside at night a lot & DD kept busy. I took her bike as well.

She was cycling quietly around one resort at 21.30pm as people were still out walking, it was lovely as the sun set.

Darwin Forest in the Peak District. It's a holiday park with lodges, pool, activities etc. And it's near Alton Towers so you could take them there for a day.

@AnotherEmma I'm seriously considering this place, do they have evening entertainment?

I don't know I'm afraid! I haven't actually been there but it's on my shortlist because I thought it looked awesome when I was researching.

Thanks everyone - appreciate you taking the time to reply! Some great suggestions here. Yes I can drive, have never been super confident at motorway driving / long distances, ex always used to drive the long journeys but I suppose that's something I'll just have to deal with. Would go up to 3 hrs max I think.

I'm in the Midlands so Peak District isn't too far. Will definitely have a look at Darwin forest. I've not heard of it.

Have done Butlins Minehead a couple of times which was great fun but maybe I should try something different this year.

I've never done a hose seasons but know people who have & reckon it would be right up my street. Have also heard good things about haven so will investigate.

I think ultimately the kids seem to enjoy it when they have a bit more freedom. And they love meeting new little friends to hang out with. Will look up all of your suggestions now.
