What do you do with teens on the weekend?

When they were little it was park/crafts/tv/visiting family/swimming etc
Now they just want to sit in their rooms FaceTiming their friends or on YouTube while eating snacks.
I know that's normal & I just get on with my own stuff but they also complain of being bored sometimes & I feel like I should be doing more with them.
Week days are v busy with work/school/athletics/clubs etc
Have I got empty weekend syndrome?? I feel bad we're not doing more. What do you do?

Mine are 12 and 14

12 year old still likes bike rides, shopping, parks

14 year old will tolerate a park once he's there

Cinema, library on Saturdays

Get them helping with the meals , they both like cooking

I get on with my own stuff and they can help/accompany me or not.

They spend some time online talking to their friends.

My older son loves cooking, especially recipes from the Take Away Secret book.

I’ll take my son to see a football match (local side so not too hideously expensive) some Saturdays.

Occasionally we go geocaching or to the cinema.

I totally have ‘empty weekend syndrome’ (good name for it!) except its mostly me who is bored. Actually, its always me. I make so many suggestions as to what we could do and it’s usually a no. Im so fed up with weekends being wasted.

Could you tell me who the book is by Hen? Sounds like it would appeal to mine!

Mostly try to tempt her out if her room by offering Ice cream, horror movies or shopping trips

BG2015 · 06/01/2019 19:20

I don't do anything with my teens. They only want to be with their friends, play online games or watch YouTube videos.

They do enjoy lunch out or a trip shopping but then I i have to buy them stuff so that doesn't happen often.

Me and DP do our own thing now, Gym, shopping, Reading, cooking, watching films.

We went to a trampoline centre today and there were some teenagers there- might be worth a shot.

Jimdandy · 06/01/2019 20:17

Trampolining is a good suggestion.

Don’t they actually go out and play sport with friends anymore or physically hang out with them or do they just talk to each other via devices?

DS1 is 15. He woke at 11am yesterday, showered, had breakfast then went to some football with his mates. Came back to eat, change and then went out again. Went to one of his mates. Came home at 930, watched TV and bed.
Today he got up at 11am, showered and went out for an hour. Came back and has been eating/gaming all day.
We do have DS2, 3 so don't have that empty weekend feeling but do feel guilty about hardly doing anything with DS1 but he always says no if we suggest anything.
