Can someone tell me what cloth nappies to buy please

Decided to buy reusable for new baby due in May.

Reading up on it is confusing my brain - there’s so many to choose from and I don’t want to waste money on (literal) crap.

Can I ask

What brand
How many
Do I need liners
Anything else?

Thanks

Check out the nappy lady- both her website and the Facebook group have great advice. A lot of local councils do free nappy trials which were great- we got loads of different types and were able to see which ones suited us best before spending a fortune on them!

We used (and loved) gnappies (sometimes called gpants)
So easy to use
You need between 8-12 of them
We used their bamboo fleece inserts and biodegradable liners.

If you have a cloth nappy library near you I’d suggest trying different ones rather than buying a load only to find they’re not the best fit - not all nappies fit all babies equally well. I’d suggest 20 as young babies get through lots of nappies in a day and you’re. It going to want to be doing an extra load of laundry every single day. If you choose the birth to potty ones then they often don’t fit literally from birth unless you have a very big baby. I had close pop-ins for both my older children, but pocket nappies are probably my favourite as you can use different boosters as your baby gets bigger and wets more heavily, you can spend a fortune on expensive pocket nappies but the little bloom cheapies are just as good.

@Madratlady I have 3 dc already my washing machine is never off Shock

I know we have a sling library but never knew there could be a nappy one. I’ll see if I can find out.

Was thinking of using disposables for the newborn days (and probably nights) then cloth when she goes up to the next size.

I used disposables for the first few weeks with my older 2 as it was just easier while recovering from c sections although I have been given a bag of newborn nappies for baby number 3. I didn’t switch to cloth with my eldest until he was 18 months when I got a trial kit from a nappy library, I found that the ones I liked the look of best weren’t actually a good fit and leaked easily and other ones were a better choice so it was definitely worth it. I usually did nappy washes every 2 days.

I’ve used cloth with 4DC now. My favourite brands are tots bots, bumgenius and bambino mio. I’ve always had to boost all of the above with bamboo inserts because all four have been heavy wetters. I had a two part system for the first couple of months- mostly tots bots wraps with some prefolds I got on eBay years ago. I like the fact DC4 is now still wearing some nappies the other three did.

I bought 20 new ones for DC4 but also dug out all of the prefolds and wraps. I wash them every other day and by that stage am almost out of clean ones. He’s ten weeks old so getting through a lot still. Did use disposables for the nasty meconium in the beginning but pampers had soooo many leaks and made him really sore so didn’t bother again.

Liners are a bit pointless with newborns, they’re useful when their poos turn solid.

I have an 18 month old ds - didn’t think of getting some for him too! Might be worth looking into. Although it’s a battle to get him to lie still. Don’t suppose they do pull up ones?

@outpinked do any of those brands sell plain/unpatterned ones?
