I worked in a health insurance company, helping to formulate and administer the policies regarding the investigations and treatments covered by the insurer. I enjoyed the challenge of finding out about new clinical areas and brand new technologies etc.
Had the advantage of being office hours

Downside - health insurance is a business and doesn't have to provide the full range of investigations, treatment and care provided by NHS and social services. That wasn't always an easy situation to find myself in.
However it does now mean I can speak from a position of knowledge about any proposals to privatise the NHS.
We had nurses with all sorts of clinical backgrounds - eg ITU, theatres, Psychiatry, Oncology

I work as a placement facilitator - I work with student nurses on placement and work through any issues they have. I deliver updates for mentors and do educational audits in my trust. It’s a great job.

I used to be an RMN, but moved area and saw an advert for FE Lecturers teaching on the Health, Social Care and Access to Nursing courses in our local college. I started on a 0hrs contract but worked there almost full-time for 4 years.

In that time I was a Guidance tutor, VQ Assessor and taught first-aid skills to prisoners in a jail. I worked on contracts for neighbouring LAs and went to run weekly classes in healthcare for their home-care staff.

I really enjoyed the experience.
