How long do you usually get singed off with work related stress

Considering going to gp about my stress levels at work. If I'm signed off will it only be for two weeks? Stress is caused by very high workload particularly over the past few months.

My gp signed me off for 4 weeks initially. I felt much better and went back after 3 (only had 4 weeks sick pay so didn't want to use it all up).
Things felt really different when I got back, even though my manager was totally unsympathetic and my workload didn't change at all. The time off allowed me to gain perspective, de-stress and relax. Just what I needed to get better and stop crying in the toilets!
