How many sheets are normal. Dull bed linen advice needed!

I'm a hoarder by nature so I find it hard to work out what I actually need. I bought some new sheets and duvet covers in the sales and only have limited storage space so I was wondering what you would do? What would you give to charity?
We have 2x single beds and 2 x double beds (one is spare so actually only needs one set) and only use flat sheets in addition to the fitted sheet when it's boiling hot or freezing cold.

Bed linen is as follows:
5x double duvets
4x double flat sheets
5x double fitted sheets
60000 pillow cases, only 50% of which colour coordinator.

6x single duvet covers
6x single fitted sheets
Loads of pillow cases.

Realistically, what would you keep?

I have 2 sets for each bed - one on, one in the wash.

Well i have 3 duvet covers, each with 2 matching pillow cases and 2 fitted sheets for the big bed. One of the fitted sheets matches with one duvet set and the other is plain so goes with the other 2 sets.

For the single beds i have one duvet set each with matching pillow case plus 2 fitted sheets for each bed. I also have 2 extra pillow cases for these which are plain so go with any.

I don’t have a tumble dryer or outside drying space so its a case of draping things inside which doesn’t make me want to wash it all too often!

2 sets per bed, (all beds are slept in every night though, no spare unused beds) unless you have to change sheets more often than weekly e.g. elderly, young, incontinent etc.

2 sets per bed here. One on the bed and one in the wash.
Although when DS was young I had 3 sets for his bed in case of accidents.

Thanks. I can be more decisive now!

I have 2 sets of sheets and pillow cases for each bed that is used. Dh and I have a flat sheet also, dc have fitted only. Duvets covers are washed once a month as we're always under a sheet.

You have FAR too many!

RollerJed · 05/01/2019 12:51

I should say (as this is MN), sheets are washed weekly, duvet is monthly.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 05/01/2019 12:59

We have more than that, because I have a thing about buying nice bedding plus if I don’t clear it out DH wont because he’s a lazy bastard.

So I’d keep all yours. One off one on is fine, another spare is good if you have young kids or often host guests.

2 sets for each bed, with the exception of the spare bed, where I would only have 1.

I would keep each complete set folded up together inside its own pillowcase, stacked neatly in the linen cupboard. Anything that mismatched would be ditched.

I think you can clear out loads!

SoyDora · 05/01/2019 14:05

2 sets per bed here too.

veggiepigsinpastryblankets · 05/01/2019 14:06

On a side note how is it that pillowcases multiply like that? I have some which I swear don't go with any bedding we've ever owned. Like you I have hoarding tendencies so don't want to ditch them in case they're useful one day.

PorpentinaScamander · 05/01/2019 14:11

I have 6 sets for the double bed. With colour coordinating fitted sheets and pillow cases for The bottom pillow.
And I think 6 sets, again with colour coordinating bits, for the single beds (2)

We used to have 2 sets each
Then the DC got a new set each and we kept the old ones for some reason. And I kept finding new sets I wanted for my bed.

They are all character sets as well and all get used depending on our mood.

Oneday56 · 05/01/2019 14:26

2 sets
