I need to spend £33 more on Waitrose stuff to qualify for click and collect...what shall I buy?

I never use them, but need to get a cake from there for £7 and in order to qualify for click and collect I need to spend £40.

Apart from some squash at £1 a bottle I'm struggling! Normally shop at Asda or Lidl so don't want to pay extra for my usual groceries.

Help please?!

It makes more sense to buy groceries that you will use rather than wasting the money buying something for the sake of it.
Wine is always a good option otherwise.

Yearinyearout · 04/01/2019 21:19

Wine! (Or gin)

Believeitornot · 04/01/2019 21:21

What’s special about the £7 cake!?

I’d just buy as normal to be honest. The prices of many things are similar to other stores

OohOohMrPeevly · 04/01/2019 21:23

They do a gorgeous own brand shower gel and a bubble bath in grapefruit fragrance - it's only about £1 and the smell is to die for. I found out about it here on mumsnet and have been buying it ever since.

OohOohMrPeevly · 04/01/2019 21:24

Also what about staples that are on special offer like dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent, kitchen roll, shampoo, coffee, tinned tomatoes, milk, cheese etc

TheCrowFromBelow · 04/01/2019 21:26

If you’re going there for click and collect, why not just buy the cake off the shelf?

TheHallouminati · 04/01/2019 21:29

Their apple Yum Yums are delicious. I've introduced everyone at work to them...we all call them pillows as they're so light and fluffy! Not soggy, crusty sticky old yum yums like from other shops. Their bread is also nice, they make a variety of rye, sourdough and seeded ones.
Their bar soap is nice.

Buy stuff that will keep and you'll always use such as tinned tomatoes (richer than other supermarkets) and frozen. Their dips and delicatessen stuff is always good, so if you're buying for a party you could buy that kind of thing.

SatsumaFan · 04/01/2019 21:36

Thanks for tips! Need more bubble bath so that is going in.

I've put on over half a stone over Christmas so need to avoid the delightful sounding apple yum-yums for now Sad Ditto wine (can't stand gin...don't shoot me).

Will have a look at store cupboard stuff. Surf/Comfort is cheaper elsewhere.

Robinson's lime and mint cordial - £2.50. Tastes like mojito 😍

SatsumaFan · 04/01/2019 21:38

Oh, it's this cake for ds's birthday next weekend. Going to pimp it (Ok, get someone else to as I'm rubbish at that sort of thing!).

Can't see one as good at Asda, and don't want to risk driving the 15 mins to Waitrose on Thurs to find they don't have it, and then won't have time to order one.

@christmasfoof that cordial is on offer for £2 atm so one is in my trolley! Will get some lemonade to go with it and it'll be like a mojito like you say Smile

Also added 95p grapefruit bubble bath.

I've added sanitary towels, gluten free pasta for my sister, hand wash...still £8 shy of £40!

Wine!

SatsumaFan · 04/01/2019 22:48

We still have lots of wine leftover from Christmas! So in the spirit of a healthy New Year I went for green tea and vitamins Grin (and party rings and chocolate buttons for the birthday party. Which I will not eat. Oh no....).

Tesiere (sp?) syrup is the cordial of the gods. Passion fruit and grenadine are faves here. None of those nasty sweeteners either.

Époisses cheese

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/01/2019 22:54

Astonish laundry detergent super cheap and washes great.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/01/2019 22:55

Actually that may be Ocado.

babysharkah · 04/01/2019 22:57

I've done that cake it's brilliant. They usually have it in store. Might be worth checking if it's not a massive trek?

PavlovianLunge · 04/01/2019 22:58

What about bulky or heavy items? Washing liquid, toilet rolls, canned goods, bottled water, milk...

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 04/01/2019 23:00

Give them a call - they've put things like cake aside for me for two days before. If four is too many for them; just give them payment over the phone?

SatsumaFan · 04/01/2019 23:26

Gah I didn't think about calling them to see if they had one. Was just going to pop over (15 min drive each way) and see if they had one this weekend, but friend who is decorating it said it would possibly be stale by the party next weekend.

Hence me ordering it for next Weds/Thurs.

All ordered, thanks for tips! Just gotta hope they don't substitute the one bloody thing I wanted! Grin
