Older girls bedroom ideas

Hi. I've spent hours trawling through ideas online and can't find anything 'right', so looking for inspiration from MN!

We have promised my DD(10) an updated bedroom this year.

I'm looking for some nice curtains to centre the other accessories/bedding around but struggling.

Ideally looking for pink/grey theme but open to ideas.

DD is not really girly BUT she would still like a pretty bedroom.

Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance

We redecorated my Dd12's bedroom last year & I was very conscious that her tastes might change quite quickly over the next couple of years. So we've gone for a really delicate lavender colour for the walls with bright accessories - cushions & rug - which we can change easily if she wants a change.

Why don’t you get some made then you can choose exactly what you want.

Should add that I let my 11 year old choose her own window covering and she chose cream wooden Venetians which I would never have chosen and they don’t particularly make the room very dark .... but I guess that might be a plus in her teenage years.

Any chance you can hang on TIL she starts secondary?
Only reason I sat this is dds tastes changed massively. I did her room in y6 and she's moaned on and on about changing it (she's nearly 14) it's not offensive and not a little girls room but she has very definite ideas on what's cool and what's notGrin

I would paint the walls something very neutral and use the duvet cover, cushions, throws and (to a lesser extent because they're expensive) curtains to create the look.

Children & Teenagers can and do change their minds in things in a split second so that way it's realatively easy to change.

Also consider whether they will do their homework in their rooms or elsewhere in the house - for mine it's elsewhere - but if it is in their rooms consider where they'll work and make sure they've got suitable lighting.

Agree with all the above. I would have thought even at 10 she would have her own ideas?

I would recommend things that are easy to keep clean, such as non-carpet floors for when the are eating/drinking/using makeup and glitter in there. And plain walls so they can stick things up themselves.

Fairy lights are always nice

Dd has 3 white walls and one coloured in pale blue and pale blue curtains. We've found there is lots of bedding that goes with the colour and she has 3 very different sets so each time her bedding is washed her room looks different. Primark has some lovely colourful bedding which might give you some good ideas. I'm amazed at the quality of it, it's not 100% cotton but it feels nice. Ikea do narrow wall shelves which are perfect for displaying books and pictures.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions.

She does have her own ideas - the pink and grey theme was hers but we can't find exactly what she has in mind.

She deffo needs an upgrade before secondary school - she's had the same curtains since she was 3!

Both of my girls had neutral walls, wood floors, wooden Venetians.

One then had a vaguely Indian theme: sari fabric quilt, rug and accessories in hot pink and orange and turquoise and red, little mirrored boxes, painted mobiles and ethnic shop type bits and bobs.

The other one had one wall painted grey, paisley and denim coloured bedding, more of a cool neutral feel.

Both had a lot of photos and posters and artwork all over their walls though.

Have a look at ’curtainsmadeforfree’ thousands of fabrics and lots of search options to narrow it down.
