What small things have you done that made you feel more healthy?

My resolution for 2019 is just to feel healthier. I'm overweight but don't want to just do another fad diet. I seem to have struggled recently with a run of minor health problems. Bad back, depression, vertigo, chest infections, D&V etc so..... what small things do you do that you feel keeps you healthy? And/or what changes have you made in the past in order to improve your health? Thanks.

Probiotics. A really high strength one, not cheap but makes my guts feel better.

gamerchick · 04/01/2019 18:22

Eat colours not beige, drink lots of water and move until I'm a bit breathless.

I'm poorly these days but as long as I can stay as fit as possible it's bearable.

peachypetite · 04/01/2019 18:22

Start small. Aim to drink more water and maybe 5,000 steps a day?

Go for a walk and drink green tea.

Use my juicer to make fruit and vegetable juices...if I can be bothered very rarely

Redcrayonisthebest · 04/01/2019 19:02

Some great ideas thank you, what does green tea do?
I always think the probiotic stuff is a bit of a marketing ploy, do you find it really works?
I definitely need to exercise/walk more!!

Add a portion of veg into every meal. I.e. stick a salad in a cheese sandwich or put peppers and mushrooms in a omelette or stick some broccoli or the side of your pasta etc.

Denise Austin's 10 minute stretch video, daily, makes me a lot less creaky. Knowing it's only 10 minutes helps to motivate me.

Not eating too much bread helps me, but I think diet is a very personal thing.

Smeeeeeee · 04/01/2019 19:10

Go for a walk in the countryside as often as possible.

spudlet7 · 04/01/2019 19:10

Probiotics as pp said. And vitamin c. I also take a multivitamin and extra magnesium. Loads of green veg is good too.

WitsEnding · 04/01/2019 19:12

I forgot tai chi! Mindfulness is not for me but tai chi 'takes me out of myself', and also improves my balance.

Redcrayonisthebest · 04/01/2019 19:16

Ooh off the Google Denise Austin and also Tai Chi.

Stop drinking calories by which I mean milky coffees, fizzy drinks, fruit juices and smoothies. Plus magnesium and vitamin D suppliment.

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 04/01/2019 19:32

I keep a big bottle of water in the fridge as I'm more likely to drink it that way.

Eat a good breakfast every morning.

Get outside as much as possible. I struggle to fit in exercise with 3DC and a DH who works late but even just walking for school pick up helps (but tempting to take the car as it's easier with the younger two in tow)

I have a shower every night and a half hour pampering routine so I go to bed feeling clean and nice. That's one for my mental health plus I'm convinced it helps me sleep.

I need to cut out junk more as it affects my blood sugar and I end up feeling like the world is ending.

OneKeyAtATime · 04/01/2019 19:34

Sleep more and read more/less screen time

Candolim97 · 04/01/2019 19:38

Less sugar - less cravings, also I don’t experience sugar crashes
Drinking goats kefir put my IBS in remission

Iron supplements help with fatigue. It wasn’t until I started getting blood tests more often I realised I’m always anemic and it’s not normal to feel tired all the time

Candolim97 · 04/01/2019 19:43

Also writing to do lists and notes on my phone helped me cope with my depression some what. I make ridiculously ‘easy’ / mundane tasks such as vacuuming or when I last washed my hair, washed my bedding etc but it helps me keep on top of things
Never admitted this to anyone else ofc Blush

Speaking of which washing my bedding once a week makes me sleep much better

Waddsup12 · 04/01/2019 19:46

Magnesium bis-glycinate supplement

Trying to get a good gut microbiome. Drink kefir and eat a wide variety of food, both raw and cooked.

Wash hand thoroughly after being in shops!

CryHavoc · 04/01/2019 19:46

More reading, more water, and longer walks. My day is so much better if I've been out in the fresh air for half an hour.

GodknowsIwanttobreakfree · 04/01/2019 19:47

Give up wine.

Feel so much better the next day. I thought a weekend hangover was normal for years.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 04/01/2019 19:48

Yoga. Look up yoga with adriene on youtube if you don't fancy a class - she has lots of free videos, suitable for beginners.

Regular yoga is fantastic for mental and physical health imo. I also really rate running for making me feel great, but I appreciate that can be a scary prospect. Lots of couch to 5k programs available though!

Zamolochikova · 04/01/2019 19:50

Keep track of how much water you've drank in a day, it makes such a difference Smile also don't set loads of crazy goals or you'll end up pushing yourself too hard and will end up demoralised.

Good luck Smile

WineGummyBear · 04/01/2019 19:56

Yoga with Adriene on YouTube.
Game changer.

NerrSnerr · 04/01/2019 19:58

Eating a more varied diet (my diet was mainly just pasta, bread and cheese with the added potato).

Drinking less caffeine.

Thinking positively.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/01/2019 20:06

Switch to full-fat dairy products and make sure you drink at least a litre and a half of water every day (not hard, really) You'll feel much more satisfied and fuller for longer. I've dropped two dress sizes from these alone.

Flatwhite32 · 04/01/2019 20:13

Cook from scratch nearly every night. DH takes over with baby DD in the evenings while I cook. I love cooking Indian and Asian food - lots of spices, garlic, ginger etc. I haven't had a cold in over a year now! I also take vitamin D every day. I started doing that in pregnancy, and decided to carry on after DD was born nearly 6 months ago.
