Just that really.

Swayed by the huawei camera but concerned about all other aspects of the Huawei....

Dp has an iPhone and iPad. I have an iPad too.

Thanks I wasn't aware of these allegations. I can't say it would away my thoughts about the device. If it's not China using it to spy it'll be Google, doesn't bother me.

Truckingonandon · 04/01/2019 19:16

Fabulous. Beats the iPhone hands down and I'll never go back.

Theknacktoflying · 04/01/2019 19:17

It may seem innocuous but if information is aggregated it can be worth something ...

Also the throw away comment that the Chinese govt can force companies to release customer data/assist them ...

ihatethecold · 04/01/2019 19:20

Im due an upgrade and my iPhone 6s keeps shutting down in cold weather. It won't work again until it's been re charged.
I was thinking of moving over to android so this thread is interesting.

CountTessa · 04/01/2019 19:20

Like mine but the screen cracked far more easily than any other phone I've had. Great camera.

Truckingonandon · 04/01/2019 19:21

If China wants to spy on me, good luck to them, as they're going to be highly disappointed!!

DoodleLab · 04/01/2019 19:24

Are the concerns concerning Huawei & Chinese govt eavesdropping more about personal handsets at the consumer level or telecommunications equipment at the infrastructure level? I'm thinking about going back to a smart phone (always had apples) and have heard good things about Huawei handsets, but this is a concern.

Autumnchill · 04/01/2019 19:39

I believe the US (and others) are more concerned about them having majority control over tech and therefore can shut it down if they decide to and thus render the rest of the world paralysed when the day of reckoning is upon us!!! Plus the ability to access data so whilst you might be a private citizen, you could be a CEO of a major company / bank and they could access trade secrets or perhaps you're even President of the good ole U S of A, who allegedly uses his own non-government issued iPhone for important matters (the Chinese have offered him a Huawei 😀).

It does all get a bit Tom Clancy however think how much we rely on tech and how easy it would be for a disgruntled superpower to take control.

CerysC · 04/01/2019 19:46

I wouldn't buy one because I don't trust Huawei as a company and if the UK government follows other countries that's a lot of money down the drain. I don't support knock off and cheap products where possibly either

LongtimeLurker29 · 04/01/2019 20:00

I love my P20 Pro. Previously had iPhones and find this much more reliable. I don't care if Chinese spy on me as I lead a boring life 😂 the camera is amazing and that's what I use most

Owletty · 04/01/2019 20:51

Wow, everyone- thanks for all the responses.

It sounds like it's an amazing phone. Though the other countries not working with them is a concern, in that the UK could follow and my phone would then be useless...

Spying on me wouldn't bother me. They'd soon stop when they realise what a boring life I lead!

I wonder if your phone would work in the countries its banned. Not good for travel

GetRid · 04/01/2019 21:40

Hi op

When people mentioned other countries not working with Huawei, this refers to handing out large government contracts for telecommunications infrastructure, specifically installing 5G networks. Governments don't want foreign powers (ie China) to be in control of something so important and that could compromise national security.

It does not refer to domestic mobile phones! You have nothing to worry about in buying a Huawei handset.

I have the P20 pro and it's excellent. Camera is fab which is all I care about.

Bathbombs · 04/01/2019 21:46

I’ve only ever had iPhones. Does everything swap over neatly if you go over to android? Photos, saved passwords, contacts etc?
I can’t inagine finding any other system as intuitive!

ballsdeep · 04/01/2019 21:48

No it doesn't but you can save all your pics onto Google photos and access them through the hauwei.

Bathbombs · 04/01/2019 21:48

And what about FaceTime & Apple Pay?
Those are the main functions I use

QuestionableMouse · 04/01/2019 21:51

I have a Huawei phone and a tablet. Love both of them... They just work, have plenty of memory and a good battery life.

Owletty · 04/01/2019 23:43

Thanks GetRid

I'm thinking a Huawei is the way to go Smile

Batubombs you can use android pay which is the same as Apple pay.

I don't know what facetime is so can't comment on that

Yamg · 05/01/2019 00:55

Yes when I set up my huawei it took me step by step through an incredibly easy transfer of my contacts, photos etc.

For a facetime replacement you could use WhatsApp

goose1964 · 05/01/2019 01:19

I have the honor 9,charges really q

AGHHHH · 05/01/2019 06:26

Huawei have great phones. I've tried them twice now.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 05/01/2019 09:46

There is an app called phone clone which will transfer all your apps from your old phone. I went from android to android but it might work on iPhone. The nice man in Caroline warehouse did mine for me.
