unwanted socks

I had a purge of my sock drawer at New Year. I have worn but excellent condition socks, mainly white, to giveaway. Will a charity shop throw them in the bin? They could be useful to someone but I presume a charity shop would struggle to display them as they can't be hung on clothes hangers. WWYD with them?

Give them to the charity shop in a separate bag, explain they’re clean and good condition and they can decide to sell in the shop or to sell as rags and get money that way.

if most charity shops are like ours they will go straight in the rag bag as hygeine rules say we cant sell used socks or underwear sorry

there's a website that does sock subscriptions that is currently doing a 'sock amnesty' i'm afraid i cant remember the name of the website but if you google for sock amnesty, it should come up and basically you leave your address for them and they send you a prepaid envelope/mailing box to put in your unwanted socks to send to them and they then give them out to those in need.

Thanks for the feedback. I've kept some to use as rags at home and the others have been thrown in the bin because I was fairly sure charity shops would bin them because of hygiene reasons. I always donate clothes and shoes to charity and I take old bras to M & S (who have a charity bin for them and they send them abroad somewhere).

Look for your local textiles recycling bins. They will be at the tip, or there might be local neighbourhood bins, or at the supermarket. Local council website will have details.

Donations are sorted appropriately into saleable or recycled and turned into fleece, car mats, etc.
