Getting a work wardrobe

I'm not really sure how i managed so far. I have a work wardrobe at the moment. It passes and it's the right 'smart' clothes but I don't think I wear it well.

I have pencil skirts, knee high skirts and a dress or two. I have some nice tops.

Basically I need a new work and casual wardrobe, but I have no idea what suits me.

I feel I could be a lot more modern, stylish and wear much better fitting clothes.

Has anyone had any experience of personal stylists or any advice of where I might get some other help. I'm not a very good judge of myself tbh.

I'm worried a personal shopper or something might be great until I got to the checkout with armfuls of clothes and a rather expensive bill.

Imo the issue is never so much the clothes, as the shoes. If you have a pencil skirt, a top and a well fitting jacket, it can be UTTERLY RUINED by shit tights and shit shoes.

Book in for a free John Lewis person stylist session. They'll suggest styles and colours which suit you and your body shape. There's no obligation to buy but you'll come away with ideas for future shopping trips.

That sounds good. I don't mind buying a couple of choice pieces but I'd prefer to the majority to be some more...lower price options.

Have you had one before?

Yes I had one done a few years ago when I had my pre baby body shape. I bought one item but went away with ideas of which styles suited me.
I suit Slim, fitting clothes which are lightly tailored. Midi length skirts rather than long skirts as I'm a shorty and also v neck rather than high necks.

Also have a look at capsule wardrobes and French fashion on pintest to give you ideas.

Okay, sounds good!

I'm quite short, and large... not a great combination. I do want to lose weight but have got the point where I realise I need to feel better about myself. And part of that is wearing clothes that suit me NOW rather than saying I'll get them when I'm thinner!

Do you go alone, or did you / can you have someone come along? If it goes to plan, it would be good to go shopping after with someone!

Sorry to quiz you! How does it work? Do they kinda take round the store, pick out loads of things and then you try them out, or do they have another way? I can't say I've ever noticed them around stores so they must have quite subtle ways!
