What changes are you making this year to feel happier/more organised/more productive?

Thought I'd see what others are doing for extra inspiration.

I've ordered a new planner so I can keep everything I need for each day jotted down on one page.

Going to clear out the desk and create a nice work station/clear the office so it's a nice place to work from home

Make a conscious effort to clear things away in the kitchen as things are used so it doesn't stack up (me and DH will be doing this!)

For the rest of the house - mega declutter to try and simplify things and items - then find a way to try and stay on top of it all so there isn't a need for a giant clean every few weeks

Download a budgeting app so I can be more organised money wise

Get a post filing system - I'm terrible for chucking things everywhere and then not knowing where to find them

Invest in some decent skincare that's researched a bit rather than just randomly trying the latest thing that sounds good or is raved about online (shouldn't fall for it but I do!)

And I'm going to stick to my running 3-4 times a week but add in pilates and use my calm app every day for a bit of headspace

What about you?

Finishing decluttering. Working in month blocks.

mmmgoats · 03/01/2019 20:56

sounds good @ohioohioohio sounds like you have a system - that's where I keep going wrong!

Esqueleto · 03/01/2019 20:57

Getting all my photos printed and put in to albums. Wish me luck!

mmmgoats · 03/01/2019 21:00

ooh that's a good one @esqueleto I still only have one wedding picture printed and we got married a few years ago! Might have to add that to my list.

Good luck!!

Putting my phone away more and reading more.
Eating more fruit and veg and doing more exercise to lose weight.
Using a calendar/organiser on the wall.

SassitudeandSparkle · 03/01/2019 21:05

A habit tracker worked well for me late last year, it's a list of (mostly daily) things I want to do so looking at the list and seeing what I've done is motivating. I think I have a tendency to think I've not done as much as I actually have so to see proof makes me do it.

It's also easy to add more items to it when you need to, like checking my DD's school planner every night to save that morning when you open it and find a request for an item for that day Hmm

Also putting family events/appointment on a big wall calendar in the kitchen, so we all know what is happening on any day.

mmmgoats · 03/01/2019 21:41

@sassitudeandsparkle that’s the kind of approach I’m hoping to adopt!

@iliveinsalemslot sounds like a plan. I need to limit my phone time too really

I'm putting the KonMari tidying method into practice, and joining a gym to lose this baby weight!

Have you found a good budgeting app? That's something I'm in desperate need of.

thannyflaps · 03/01/2019 22:01

I'm chucking the DS and DH our the house. Only way I'm going to boost productivity

SassitudeandSparkle · 03/01/2019 22:01

We'll work on it together - the calendar really does work, even my DD has directed my DH to it on occasion!

For the planner episode, I luckily had one of the item in stock for Christmas but the school got it instead!

FlagFish · 03/01/2019 22:02

The single biggest thing that would make me happier would be to lose a couple of stone. So that's what I'll be focusing on this year. I'm reasonably good at budgeting, decluttering etc.

Gemi33 · 03/01/2019 22:16

Out of interest, what planner have you ordered? I really want to be more organised!

xx

mmmgoats · 03/01/2019 22:53

@adeo1929 I'm still researching, I will let you know!

@gemi33 I've ordered the Get Stuff Done planner from CGD London - pricey but my friend has one and it's beautiful quality, and has everything I want from a bullet journal but when I try to do the layoutsmyself I either waste too much time on it or don't keep it up!

I've a few new years resolutions to try and make 2019 better.

  • Have the house "visitor ready" at all times
  • Go to the gym more often and watch my calories intake
  • Travel as often as possible.
  • Control my emotions and better myself
  • Improve my finances and save more money
  • seize my independence and be comfortable alone
AspieT · 04/01/2019 21:15

Pace myself at work
Take regular breaks
Say no more often
Do no personal development work after work

KingIrving · 05/01/2019 19:59

Keep in touch with friends with proper emails or FaceTime/Skype not the odd two lines on social media.
Learn something, I used to do a lot of Moocs but have fallen in the Netflix train.
Do less Netflix-MN- whatever

Urbanvoltaire · 05/01/2019 21:46

I've started to:

get out of bed at least 5 mins before I need to
Have clothes laid out the night before.
Have a plan in my head with what I've to get organised for that day.

All of the above entails me to have laundry up to date & clothes tidied away. All good so far but it's only day 5!

I feel if my day starts in a controlled stress free style, I'm lining myself up in a positive way.

I'm another with a photo album action as well.

mmmgoats · 06/01/2019 00:03

all great ones!
so far I’ve stuck to making sure the kitchen is cleared every night before I go to bed and cloths soaking in bleach and water.
I’m waiting for my planner to arrive but have started my decluttering - it feels like it’s making more mess at the moment as I have lots to take to charity, but it’s also quite therapeutic

OP posts:
Tigger001 · 06/01/2019 00:09

Mine will be
definitely de cluttering
get back to eating a more balanced diet ( not just cake and biscuit for the last 8 months or so )

And i need to be more organised as I'm always dashing around with a Million and one things to do, so looking up any organiser suggestion from here to help me.

AtSea1979 · 06/01/2019 00:15

I’m looking for a new job. Wish I could find something I could do from home.
Also want to make some friends so looking for a social circle where I can take DC along.

littlecloudling · 06/01/2019 00:16

Konmarie and working on my marriage

littlecloudling · 06/01/2019 00:17

@KingIrving what's Moocs?

KingIrving · 06/01/2019 06:18

Mooc stands for Massive Open Online Courses and they are university courses from the most prestigious uni offered for free. They are not degrees but a subject. Some are specially made for moocs, others are just lessons filmed, video lesson can be short or an hour long. My first was computer science from and we were 150.000 doing the course at the same time. If Yu don’t want a certificate they are totally free. You can finds so many courses about art, history, medicine, maths.... the main platforms are coursera www.coursera.org/ and EdX www.edx.org there are more and others such as Yale offer courses as well oyc.yale.edu.

PinaColada1 · 06/01/2019 18:06

Moleskin organizers are great. I’ve got the well being one this year, I love spending the first few weeks of January slowly making lists and plans.

I don’t do them all, but it helps me feel I’ve yearly goals and I do half of them!
