I'm feeling rather down in the dumps. It's probably the January / being a bit skint (saving for much-needed new bathroom) / post-Christmas blues.
I've started a new skincare regime but have so far failed to do any exercise or sort my diet out. I'm thinking I might try and start a new resolution each week this month (while continuing the others) as I've clearly failed 2/3 so far Blush
My issue is... I just feel so glum and unmotivated. I just want to stay under a blanket, drink green tea and eat cheese until Spring.
Any quick fixes for feeling better? I normally have a bath but the current bathroom is so grim it's making me feel worse.

A nice walk along the beach (or anywhere really) then home to a nice cuppa and a good book. I agree though. This time of year its so tempting just to stay under the duvet! A good walk in the fresh air always helps though

Taffeta · 03/01/2019 19:44

Agree with walking
Spring cleaning
Buy yourself some flowers and candles
Keep busy

Mesmeri · 03/01/2019 19:48

Agree about fresh air and walking in nature.
Hair cut.
Also, doing some careful food shopping so you have lots of things to eat that are not necessarily all health foods, but that are nutritionally helpful and not junk food.

ComtesseDeSpair · 03/01/2019 19:49

A good long run. Best thing I ever took up for pushing through a slough of despond.
Also: a trip to see my favourite painting at the National Gallery; reorganising my wardrobe; reorganising my bookshelves; a wander around a garden centre; dancing and getting lost in music in a nightclub; stroking and having a chat with a cat in the street; a glass of wine on my own in a quiet pub with a window overlooking a bustling street.

FreshlyWashed · 03/01/2019 19:50

Yes, yes to ding busy.

Spending time with people I love and who make me laugh.

AwkwardPaws27 · 03/01/2019 21:17

I'm really going to have to put my trainers on, aren't I? Sad

I've literally a vanilla candle, made a cup of tea and dug out a mindful colouring book... and then realised Mother Nature may have something to do with how utterly crap I feel Grin
Anyone else get period amnesia, then wonder why it feels like the world is ending?

tablelegs · 03/01/2019 21:24

Clean bed sheets, have a bath, watch a film and then climb into bed with a book.

hugoagogo · 03/01/2019 21:49

I totally get the feeling of 'hmm I am rather down I need to do something about it' and then lo period appears![ grin]

ohtheholidays · 04/01/2019 08:07

A nice warm bath with some nice bubble bath,I turn the light of and light some candles and have the window slightly open, sometimes I'll have a glass of wine or prosecco whilst I'm having a soak, then out of the bath wrap myself up with a large warm fluffy towel.

Once I'm dried I get changed into some new PJ's(I got some for Christmas)and climb into bed into fresh sheets or a new bed set and either read some of my new book or start watching a new boxset whilst eating some cheese on toast or cheese and crackers and drinking a nice cup or decaf coffee.

Going for a swim at a leisure centre, going for a walk in the country side or round a National trust place and then stopping of for a spot of lunch or for a cuppa and some cake.

Chocolateandabook2019 · 04/01/2019 11:16

Fresh air here too.

Every month, we drive to Morecambe for our stroll which consists of a nice cooked breakfast beforehand (or not as the case may be), then we stroll along the promenade.
We walk a good couple of hours, (or until our legs really ache), then come home and.......fall asleep 😆.
It it does cheer us up, gets us motivated, and it’s free.

SpinSpinSpin · 04/01/2019 12:19

Early morning walk
Cake (& eating in general)
Decluttering
Hair cut
Pampering myself - soaking my feet, painting my nails etc
Spending time with DH
Binge watching a good box set with DH & a glass if wine
Sleep

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 04/01/2019 13:01

Another yes to fresh air.

And I just bought myself a bunch of tulips to cheer up the room after taking tree down. Always cheers me up Flowers

LazyDoll · 04/01/2019 15:09

January is for hibernation and catching up on sleep missed in December in my book!

Fresh bedding, hot bath, candles, fairy lights, tea, new book, running, yoga, healthy non stodgy meals, mint tea, gel nails, filling charity bags of clutter, making plans for 2019 all good start of the year activities.

And knowing you can take it easy as it bloody cold out takes the pressure off doing too much I always find! Enjoy 😊

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 04/01/2019 15:10

My birthday.
Lots of non drinkers, so I can go the pub and get a lift.
Cheap flights and hotel deals in January mean it’s a great time to get away.
Any warm/bright days are a bonus - mornings are getting lighter.
De cluttering ready for Spring proper.
Lots of time to get bikini ready so no need to worry for another month.
Soup making and lots of vegetables. Cutting the carbs but being able to eat tonnes of stew.
Planting bulbs/ watching bulbs come out.
Planning for summer holidays.
Cleaning the filthy windows.
Always hoping for a snow day.
Back to school but not long until Feb half term.
In my head it’s the “top” of the year so its all downhill now until the long warm days.

I need help with March. Bills, new financial year and summer still hasn’t arrived...

kateandme · 04/01/2019 18:22

let yourself do those thing you said.and be at peace with it.stop thinking thinking onto the next moment and just sit with ur cheese and tea.its ok to do that.its great infact.
once you stop thinking and feeling you should be doing more it will be so freeing to just be!
if at any point you feel able or want to move do so but just bask in being still and being you.
is there anywhere you want to go.any walk, park café etc.perhaps make a little outing plan for yourself.so you feel you've got something to look forward to.
even getting a movie in.cooking a nice meal and planning an evening in with candles meal and film.making everything cosy and looking forward to when that evening comes.

KisstheTeapot14 · 04/01/2019 19:53

Write a proper letter to a friend and cheer up their post (colourful envelopes and stickers added bonus). Much nicer than just a post box of boring bills and junk mail.

Start a journal for dreams and thoughts and plans

Cook a new recipe each week

Youtube has good videos on Tai Chi and Qi Gong for some gentle moves to keep your chi flowing! There's one called 5 Brocades that I like, demonstrated by a young woman.

Learn to recognise some common bird songs - very satisfying to identify Robins and Blackbirds by tune

Before you know it the snowdrops will be out.

KisstheTeapot14 · 04/01/2019 19:56

Look for beauty in unexpected places and take a photo a day.

Do something kind. Use your skills to help someone else.

LikeSilver · 04/01/2019 20:16

What is it about periods and cheese? I have a day a month where I just want to eat All Of The Cheese Now!

My list:

Walking/running/swimming
Cup of tea and a chocolate bar
Decluttering
Baking/cooking
A good book
New PJs and fluffy socks
Animals - cuddle with my cats or dog walking at the local rescue
Board game with my kids
Cinema trip (no kids Grin)
Lunch out, alone, people watching

KisstheTeapot14 · 04/01/2019 20:34

fluffy socks! yes, I have 2 pairs so always one to hand if others in wash :) very comforting. long pairs are best.

sulflower · 04/01/2019 20:40

I would generally feel the same but lucky enough to have a big holiday coming up so that's motivating me to get out, exercise and stop eating crap. Sitting here contemplating our route for a long hike early tomorrow.

greenpop21 · 04/01/2019 22:13

No matter how fed up or stressed I feel, I have to walk my dog every afternoon(DH does early morning walk) and I find I ALWAYS feel brighter afterwards. MY mind wanders and I feel more alive being outdoors. I notice the small changes in extra light, a new thing growing etc, it lifts my spirits.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/01/2019 22:15

Cheese and crackers and Mean Girls

jessstan2 · 05/01/2019 00:03

Good telly, good food (tho' not all that hungry atm), being warm and cosy indoors. Love.

Vivaldi1678 · 05/01/2019 04:32

Go on holiday - there are great bargains now and wonderful for avoiding diets, frugality and dry January bores!
