What time does your 4 year old go to bed?

Im always torn between him having an early night which inevitably ends up in being chased off to bed and like tonight, hes still faffing 45 mins later. Or letting him go to bed later and falling to sleep quickly.

His bedtime is 7. Sometimes I aim for a 630 and hes asleep by 7. Sometimes hes in bed, or on the sofa to sleep at 7.. asleep by 730.

In the past few months he has been having bad dreams and waking in the night so he wants us with him when he sleeps.

Due to the layout of our home, we turn the tv and lounge lights off when hes settling in to avoid distractions for him.. (his room is off the lounge with frosted glass walls if you like).

In bed by 6.30 for stories, asleep by 7.15 usually. I aim for 7 but on a work day it's always nearer 7.30. He gets up between 5.30 and 6am so any later and he's a nightmare the next day. He still gets up at the same time even if he goes to bed late.

Prior to starting school he always self settled. He's had bad dreams and the need for us to sit with him since starting in Sept.

I wonder if we should try 7.30 bedtimes as he seems to settle better...

We aim for 8pm but it's often about later.
He's a machine and can cope on less sleep than me!

8 to 8.30. I gave a five year old also. They settle after stories but earlier doesnt really work for us really.

God I wish my kids went to sleep this early ! My four year old is often still awake in bed chatting to herself at gone 9....6 yr old is often asleep before her.

I can't imagine how I would get them to sleep by seven.

They do slleep til 8 the next day though

waterrat · 03/01/2019 21:47

I personally would let a child stay up a bit later if it meant developing later starts the next day

I know people say their kids wake early whatever the bedtime but surely like movingbetween time zones a late bedtime would eventually lead to waking later

Mine all have to be up at 7am anyway.

waterrat mine sleep 7.30pm- 8am in the holidays! They have to be up earlier for school/nursery though hence a 7pm bedtime normally.
