Realistically how many items of clothing does my 3yo need?

OK so I feel like I'm constantly doing the laundry with the majority being DCs clothes.
DS1 is 3 and DS2 is 1. I'm constantly considering just getting rid of most of it and questioning how many pairs of trousers/tops/tshirts/hoodies do they need but then once I get rid of something a time rolls around when I'm looking for it as it could be used for xyz occasion and realise I've donated it.

I really really want to do it now as I feel like I am just sorting laundry 24/7.
Can anyone give me an idea of how to streamline their wardrobes?
How many tops, tshirts, jumpers, trousers etc on average per child?

The amount of washing I do relates to how many things they get dirty.

I found having not quite enough clothes annoying as I’d have to wash more. Too many clothes meant I’d wash less frequently.

At 3&1 I assume they get things mucky quickly so that’s why you have to wash loads.... once they’re in school it’s a bit easier!

At that age I probably had enough tops and trousers for 10 days (as I didn’t wash much in the week as I was at work plus needed spares to give to nursery etc)

Having more clothes doesn’t mean more laundry though does it? They still only wear a certain amount of clothing per day/week.

I just think laundry is constant with a toddler and a baby whatever you do.

Just be aware that when they go into school uniform, their casual clothing needs go down. Plus they tend to keep cleaner better by then. So you may need to buy less in future sizes Smile

Just to clarify I do know they still get dirty at the same rate but as an example at the moment I have a full hamper + 2 large washing baskets full of dirty clothes and more are racking up and they're wardrobes are still full!
I think if all of their clothes were clean at the same time they wouldn't fit in their (massive BTW) wardrobe.

It's the sheer amount of laundry and piles of it and putting it off has made it worse.
I hope that if there's less stuff it's more manageable as a whole. Idk if I'm making sense.

I guess it depends how often you realistically want to be doing a wash then. My 3 year old wears an outfit a day, very very occasionally need a change of clothes if she pours something down herself or gets muddy. So based on a weekly wash, 9 outfits?

For my three year old, we could manage with the following:
3x jogging bottoms (for nursery)
2x jeans (for nursery or muddy weekend walks)
4x dresses (for weekends)
2x smart weekend cardigans
4x jumpers (for nursery)
4x long sleeved tops (for nursery)
1x party dress

I also have 3&1 year olds.

The baby has far too many clothes as he has everything handed down from ds1 plus gifts and the odd bits I’ve bought new as I liked it.

Ds1 has loads of tops but only 7 bottoms and it’s not quite enough. I think another 2-3 pairs would be enough to not have to stress about washing but also not feel like he’s got far too many
