Tv programs that took too much of a turn to be enjoyable

SPOILERS WILL BE INVOLVED. PLEASE READ WITH CAUTION

Everyone has their own personal views so I don’t expect mine to reflect yours, but what TV programs took such a strange turn that it made it almost hard to enjoy?

Once upon a time:- I loved this program. I thought it ended perfectly with Emma defeating the wizard and everyone happy together. They then started it all over again with Henry’s daughter. Tried really hard to get back into it but just couldn’t. I now enjoy the series and finish it without watching the newest one

The 100:- I still really enjoy this but I did think it took a bit of a stupid turn with the whole ALIE parts. It did redeem itself in the end but then had to have it with Octavia going power mad and the strange stupid worm things. However it did end rather bittersweet with Monty and Harper’s son and I am looking forward to the newest season with them finding a new planet.

The walking dead:- now I really enjoyed this but once the introduced Negan, it was no longer fight against zombies but fight against your fellow man. I have actually given up watching this though is know it still has a good fan base

Fear the walking dead:- I’m really sad to see this is going the way of the walking dead. With Nick and Madison dead, it’s left Alicia, Strand and Luciana alone fighting against the other group who caused the death of the other two. They are also no longer the man characters and Morgan seems to have taken over. I will try watching the new season when it’s released but if it carries on this way, it might be another abandoned.

My first thought was Fear the Walking Dead. I enjoyed season 3 so much and was really looking forward to season 4, but the second half was just utterly awful and the finale was laughable. Like I was literally sitting there laughing at how ridiculous it was. I understand Frank Dillane wanted to leave the show, and was really sad to lose Nick as he's such a great character and so well acted, but I have no idea why they decided to kill off Madison as well. Such a huge mistake.

I haven't caught up with The Walking Dead yet. It has become quite tedious. I was reading an interview with Tom Payne and he was saying how disappointed he was with his storylines that he asked for his character, Jesus, to be killed off. I don't blame him.

I've been watching Better Call Saul, but I've sort of lost interest a bit. I hope it picks up a bit.

BlackCatSleeping · 03/01/2019 15:11

Sorry, Tom Payne didn't ask for Jesus to be killed off directly, but made it clear that he'd be happy to go.

Soubriquet · 03/01/2019 15:17

Another point of fear the walking dead, the left the end of season 3 with the dam bursting and madison and Alicia capsized in the boat.

Yet start of season 4 they suddenly appeared in a stadium with a new colony.

I even went and checked I had the right series as I was so confused as to how they managed to set up there. It’s still never fully explained Confused

I think they brought in new writers and they just decided to go in a completely different direction, which was such a shame because I really liked the characters from Season 3 a lot better. They were a lot stronger and the storylines were more interesting. The new characters are ok, but I felt the storyline in the second half didn't make a lot of sense really.

Morgan is great in his role, but I don't feel he's really a good lead. At the end of the season when he announced that they are not going to Alexandria, I really wanted to slap him. 🤦‍♀️ And then they moved into a factory, which was ironic because on The Walking Dead, they were saying that basically living in a factory is unsustainable because you can't create food. That scene where they needed ethanol to live and it was all pouring out the trunk and no one ran forward to drink it. It was just stupid.

There will be a season 5, so I hope it gets better.

ohcarriemathison · 03/01/2019 15:53

The last season of House of cards was just plain weird and a massive disappointment.
I understand that they couldn't have predicted what happened with Kevin Spacey but if was so weird.

empa · 03/01/2019 16:09

I used to love Silent Witness, then totally out of the blue they had a scene featuring male rape with a truncheon in a prison lavatory. The screaming stayed with me for weeks. I actually felt traumatised.

It wasn't the sort of thing this programme used to include and was a huge change of direction. I've never risked watching it since.

Soubriquet · 03/01/2019 16:14

Hollyoaks is another I badly went off

I think I stopped watching when the whole Teagan and Diane debacle with the children mix up. Dee Dee and Rose.

I haven’t watched it since not that it is such a big loss Grin

CSI/Law & Order:SVU ?

Both started off well, but eventually ended up navel gazing, and every week seemed to be "CSI in peril", or "SVU officer family drama".

After the discussion of HoC on here, DW and I decided to give it a complete miss ...

Mayvis · 03/01/2019 16:42

Eastenders.

Used to watch it all the time but switched off after the Ronnie/Kat baby swap/cot death storyline. Whenever I see snippets or read anything about it, it's all doom and gloom, with lots of unnecessary violence.

redexpat · 03/01/2019 16:58

Lost. I still dont understand the ending.

TheVanguardSix · 03/01/2019 17:04

Killing Eve

BlackCatSleeping · 03/01/2019 17:08

I never got to the end of Lost. Sometimes I wonder if I should just binge watch it on Netflix or something.

Soubriquet · 03/01/2019 17:21

Ah yes I’m another who never got to the end of Lost

I tried several times. I can’t remember when I kept stopping. Was it a bunker they were in?

Outlander

Pretty Little Liars

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimall · 03/01/2019 17:36

Definitely Outlander. But then they follow the books and the author should never have kept them apart for so long or shifted countries.

Westworld. The first series was amazing but the second just disappeared up its own arse trying to be clever.

Game Of Thrones. It's like the writers just got bored in the last series and tried to lazily tie everything together so they could finish up and end it as quickly as possible.

lastqueenofscotland · 03/01/2019 17:39

The second series of Dr Foster
Just... wtf kids

Saucery · 03/01/2019 17:41

Holby City. It disappeared up its own backside, with a load of disjointed, mawkish storylines and incessant Roof Dives/Basement Stabbings.

Better Call Saul. I just couldn’t care less about the lead up to his ambulance chasing career, which surprised me.

The Haunting Of Hill House. Didn’t go anywhere in terms of plot, scares or acting ability.

The Walking Dead. Grim and gratuitous when Negan turned up.

LettuceP · 03/01/2019 17:51

Yep the walking dead for me too. Persevered through the whole of season 6 despite not really enjoying it but the whole Negan cliffhanger thing just made me angry so I didn't bother with series 7. I actually found it quite insulting to the viewers.

Holidayshopping · 03/01/2019 17:53

Lost. It was a total waste of my life.
Walking Dead-brilliant idea, but it went all silly.
24-should have stopped after series 3.

TheKitchenWitch · 03/01/2019 17:57

Nashville. Got dropped and locked up by another network, main character killed off, new (shite) songwriters, half the old cast gone.
Can’t even be bothered any more.

LBOCS2 · 03/01/2019 17:57

Oh, interestingly I've just got back into Outlander. I thought s1 was very strong, I found s2 a bit boring, lost interest in s3 but I've found this one really well done and am actively looking forward to watching it each Monday again which I haven't felt about a show for a LONG time.

I gave up on FTWD. I will probably pick it back up again at some point but I'm not burning through it at the same rate as I was; and it was quite a slow starter anyway.

Still enjoying TWD but I will admit to playing with my phone throughout every episode in the last series. Now it has all moved forward I'm finding it better but I think that's because they have created a load of mystery surrounding the intervening 5 years rather than because they're doing anything new or exciting with it.

groundcontroltomontydon · 03/01/2019 17:59

Radio rather than tv but ... The Archers - when actors of established characters were replaced and the storylines went all Eastenders

Woooman · 03/01/2019 18:08

Outlander- the first series was brilliant and I loved the Scottish setting. The second series was ok, the third was dire and the current one is unwatchable. Such a shame.

The Walking Dead- the Negan season was just dreadful, although I was starting to lose interest before then. I decided to watch the current season and actually started enjoying it again so I may persevere.

True Blood- loved the first 3 seasons but it went downhill and the last season was just utter rubbish.

Lucisky · 03/01/2019 18:50

A few years ago, after watching Corrie for over 30 years, I gave up. Yet again they were using cancer as a storyline; it was Fizzs daughter. Having lost my mother, best friend (and since, brother) to cancer, I really don't see it as a form of entertainment.

Soubriquet · 03/01/2019 18:53

I get you with the True Blood

I did actually manage to finish the entire season and I’m glad I did, but it can’t be compared to the book at all.

It has some very crazy storylines in the program
