Full Mop Bucket Dropped On Carpet

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 02/01/2019 23:19

I was carrying a full mop bucket of hot water through the landing when the handle broke and the hot water heavily soaked a section of carpet.

After running my feet under cold water (the water was almost boiling!), I placed towels down and walked on them, had a quick go with a hair dryer and am now running a professional dehumidifier near it.

Will it be okay? Should I do anything else?

We rent so I don’t want to cause any damage to our landlords property.

Dehumidifier in the best thing but you already have that. Maybe heating up, windows open for ventilation, and cover with a thin towel if a high footfall area (so the carpet doesn't end up grubby from everyone walking on the wet patch).

It'll take longer to dry deep down so run the dehumidifier and heat for longer than you think you'd need.

Do you have any nappies to hand? I use them on our carpet for any spillages. Just open one up and press down hard on the patch and rub your fist along the top of the nappy. It might only get the surface water but I’ve found they absorb more than a towel would.

Can you borrow a carpet cleaner from anyone? I have a bissell and they get loads of water out.

Would a load of bicarb help? Or that stuff you get from the pet shop that comes in a bigger container for soaking up dog wee accidents?

You need a wet vac to suck the excess water out - vax, bissell, karcher - or hire a carpet cleaner from diy or supermarket.

No nappies/wet vac/carpet cleaner. I might try bicarb though but after a night of running the dehumidifier water isn’t coming up when stepped on.

I think I’ll just leave the dehumidifier running for a day or two. Thanks everyone Smile
