Mm that would be 1 week since expiry. I'm not sure I'd risk it. 1-2 days over yes but I'm a bit of a wimp with these things. My DM would cook and eat it no probs !

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2019 23:24

Yes it will. It's gammon, its been smoked, it'll be fine as long as the packaging is sealed & it's been in the fridge. I wouldn't think twice about it actually.

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2019 23:25

PS - I'm probably of the same generation as nutellalove's DM Grin

ComtesseDeSpair · 02/01/2019 23:26

I would, because I’d reason that smoking is a method of preserving meat anyway; and the cynic in me suspects that supermarkets deliberately mark food with best before dates for on or around Christmas at this time of year for marketing reasons and the produce could actually last a lot longer. Also, I have a cast iron stomach.

dolly92x · 02/01/2019 23:27

Have a smell, if it smells off i wouldn't bother, but if it's been in the fridge and smells fine, enjoy! x

potatoscone · 02/01/2019 23:32

I wouldn't.

It's very unlikely it's traditionally smoked. It's a cheap Asda joint.

BeMoreKind · 02/01/2019 23:34

Smell it OP. If it's not good you'll know it.
I think it'll be fine.

selepele · 02/01/2019 23:49

Smell it if it smells even slightly bad throw if

MrsDaveGrohl78 · 03/01/2019 00:01

Ok I'll open tomorrow and see if it smells ok!

I reason that if it is smoked/preserved, the manufacturers will have already taken that into account when they worked out the use by date.
So no I wouldn't use it.

Livingthedream12345 · 03/01/2019 07:18

Open it, smell it...if it smells ok cook it.
Smell it again when it's cooked.

PoptartPoptart · 03/01/2019 08:33

I always look at it like this... how much do I want to eat it/can I afford to throw it away vs potentially making myself ill.
For me (I suffer with health anxiety) I would rather waste the food than potentially make myself sick. I wouldn’t enjoy it anyway as I would be worrying all evening that I was about to become ill.
I don’t like wasting food so I am always careful to buy things with long dates and make sure I eat things well before the expiry date.

bobstersmum · 03/01/2019 08:55

For me, absolutely no way! I'd worry at one day over, but that's just me.
