How do you brighten your living rooms up after Xmas?

Do any of you do anything particular when you take the decorations down? I always buy a nice bunch of flowers, but I kind of miss the extra sparkly lights in the bleak weather.

Great idea for a thread OP

I love hyacinths am reminded to go buy some

My poinsettia usually lasts till September at which point it is just a green random plant but I am always proud of keeping it alive

I have red covers on my sofa over Christmas, so I change them back to white. It is amazing how much brighter the room looks! I leave the fairy lights up too, love them!
Which white colour did you go for @SleepingBooty ?

I don't put them away yet.

At least following weekend.

Shoofly - those lights are lovely, never heard of them before, think I may have to buy some to cheer myself up.

I usually hate taking everything down but actually this year I’m loving all the space we now have. Not doing much to the room but loads planned for the rest of the house, finances permitting. Can’t wait to decorate our bedroom. It’s painted in rather cold shades of blue at the mo.

SleepingBooty · 03/01/2019 09:32

@orangepear we went for Timeless by Dulux but colour matched it with Valspar.

Ilovetolurk · 03/01/2019 11:53

I’ve just used timeless in my hall by coincidence

I do like it as i have it matched with a feature wall wallpaper base colour but it’s definitely cold palette not warm

I went to Tesco and they had their winter bouquets down to half price so I got one with some pine comes, evergreen branches and whistles in, it smells like the woods, that's making me pretty happy, I love the smell of trees and woodland 😂. I have a jar full of pine cones and some candles in in lanterns with some wintery decorations inside. Will probably leave them out all year.

Oh ive also god some of the mini wire fairy lights on my Dragon tree/plant in my bedroom, batteries are starting to go though!

Drogosnextwife · 03/01/2019 17:27

coloured lights from the kids tree go into a vase and act as a nightlight.

That's a great idea! I've just put the kids coloured lights away, I'll need to remember that for next year.

Oh I've got timeless in my hall! It's nice, looks quite cream but my house is north facing and very dark.
