Still no period after depot 14 weeks ago

Me and my partner have decided we want to try for a baby this year. Only problem is last year I started the depot injection I only had it twice and the last one being 14 weeks ago. I thought my periods would of returned by now? I haven’t had one since before my first depot injection. I am so upset I had no idea it can take this long for your periods to return. How long has it taken anyone else to conceive after stopping the injection? :(

It took my friend a year for the I he took to wear off properly.

Injection to wear off*

You're only just out of coverage. You may be lucky and spring back but my experience was much longer. Several months out of coverage.

It can take up to a year for fertility to return after the depo

Sallygoroundthemoon · 02/01/2019 17:57

Could take a year. I'd be concerned about the fact that you took a long lasting contraceptive without knowing this and now want to get pregnant. It suggests you have decided to have a baby on a bit of a whim. Maybe give it some time so you are really sure? Am guessing Depo might force that time anyway.

DappledThings · 02/01/2019 17:59

Sorry to say but it took me about 18 months. It was 14 months after last injection wore off before I got a period at all and at least another 6 months before they settled down.

Had my last injection November 2012 so wore off February 2013. First period was April 2014. First conceived February 2015.

Who the hell are you to pass a comment like that? I definitely have not decided to have a baby on a bit of a whim! Me and partner have always wanted a baby together but haven’t been able because of our jobs and just recently moving into a new house. I went on the depot because the pill I was on wasn’t agreeing with me and my gp suggested the depot. I suggest you take your mean comments elsewhere. Thanks.

I don't think they do tell you about all the side effects. I had the depo when I was younger and was never told. Never agreed with me anyway so gave up after 2nd one

Bigkingdom · 02/01/2019 18:12

My periods came back not long after the next injection was due so you may be lucky but i also bled the whole time i was on the thing.

Ethel80 · 02/01/2019 18:13

I was on the depo a long time and it took 3 years and the mini pill to get my periods back. I wasn't warned of this before I had it done and also wasn't told I should have been having breaks from it.

I'm disappointed they're still not being honest with women about the potential impact on fertility.

LydiaH95 · 02/01/2019 18:14

Thanks... I did ask about the side effects and nothing was said about periods taking a while to return.

Thanks I am really upset there was no warning I just presumed it was like taking pill where my periods did return after stopping a pack.

If you had your last depo 14 weeks ago it only ran out 7 days ago.

For what it’s worth, I had 3 children in 5 years and we’re on depo in between / before all of them with no problems. My periods never came back with number 1 though - I got pregnant 7 weeks after it ran out and before I’d had a period.

MigGril · 02/01/2019 18:23

I was on it for a year, the only time I didn't have any bleeding was the six months after I stopped taking it. Which was why I gave up on it as I had constant light bleeding while having the injections.

They may not tell you about the side effects which I think is quite poor. But just a bit of searching will tell you this is a possibility. I wouldn't ever use it as a young women before having children, try a different pill next time there are many.

NeonK · 02/01/2019 18:39

Ok, so maybe you didn't know periods may take a while to come back... But you must have known the last injection was effective for 13 weeks?
So as pp says, you're only a week in to your cycle returning to normal. Potentially. But it'll probably be longer than that.
