Quick question - baked ham

Mine has a string and something like waxed/parchment paper around it. I've brought it up to boil in water with the string on it.

But do I remove it before putting it into the foil in the oven?

I always take off wrappings. String if I can get it off easily. Because I want to cover the joint with something (marmalade and mustard, or treacle a la nigella)

Yes I take it off for the same reason as Picking. Usually stud cloves into it and smother with treacle or similar.

Thanks both. I did take it off on the end, covered with mustard and sugar a la Delia and we've been enjoying it for the last couple of days.
Ended up with lots so carved it very finely and have portions in the freezer for school lunches. Turns out FAR cheaper than buying pre sliced meat.

Yeah, I have a fair amount in the freezer - good for ham, egg and chips or carbonara etc.

Didn't have enough to freeze this time, it all got snaffled! I generally make a ham and pea soup too. I'll have to do another one!
