Party bag for day out?

It's my daughter's 10th birthday in a couple of weeks and we are taking her and two friends for a (pricey!) day out instead of a party. Do you think they'd expect party bags for a day out? I don't mind doing them if they do but we're already spending quite a bit on tickets, food etc. We've always done big class parties before so this is new territory and I'm not sure on the expectations.

Thanks!

I don’t think party bags are necessary in these circumstances.
They are 10 years old, plus it’s not a traditional ‘party’ it’s a lovely day out.

When we’ve taken friends for a day out I usually give them a budget in the gift shop. Especially as my children would normally have birthday money to spend.

Eg at the science museum, although I had paid for the train and lunch I gave each child up to £10. One constantly asked for things well over budget and one was happy with a pencil and eraser and offered the rest of her budget to the one moaning that £10 wasn’t enough!! Guess which child got invited to the next years birthday trip.

Thanks! That's really reassuring. The trip is to the Harry Potter studios so I fear a trip to the gift shop might bankrupt me!

There is a lot of Harry Potter merchandise in places like Tesco at the moment. You could get a couple of Harry Potter notebooks/pencil cases/stationery sets or whatever from there to give out. It would be far cheaper than the gift shop at the studios, but the party people would still get a HP gift.

The shop at the Warner Bros Harry Potter studios will indeed bankrupt you op! Especially if there are 3 of them!
As a pp said, you can get reasonably priced HP stuff in supermarkets, and Primark always have lots of HP merchandise.

I wouldn't do a party bag as such but if it requires a bit of a drive or train I would put together a bag for them with activities to keep them busy, a homemade list of things to spot and some crosswords or colouring maybe? Can be printed off the internet. And some sweets probably. Have fun, it's amazing!

For my sons 10th birthday i gave his 3 friends a tub of haribo each, they were delighted!

We have done a box of Maltesers from Poundland for that age group before. They loved having their own box.

I would nust give a slice of birthday cake to take home

Good grief! HP tickets cost a bomb! I wouldn't expect a party bag too.Maybe something HP themed from somewhere cheaper (The Works had loads of bits in before Christmas) as a token of the day out, but not more than £3-4 a head.

Might be worth suggesting to parents that their DC might want to bring their pocket money life savings

OP I took myDH there 😅 for his birthday
Could you maybe but a HP plain notebook and a pencil or something for them to write cool facts around the studio? Or drawings?
Cheapish bag of notebook, pencil and stickers?
They can also print 5/10 pics from the trip and stick the, down?

I think there is a challenge to spot all the snitches so they can use the notebook for that

planespotting · 02/01/2019 20:02

Primark had lots of bits too!
