Vaccine advice please - jabs due this afternoon

My daughter is due her 12 week jabs. She's actually 14 weeks, as Christmas threw things off track, obviously with GP being closed etc.

The last week she has had a horrid cough (rattley chest, coughing up mucousy sick), and seems to have a bit of a poorly tummy too (really smelly gas, gurgling tummy, straining and grunting to pass gas or poo)...

She doesn't have a raised temp, so the GP surgery said if the temp had gone then they'd still give the jabs. I'm just worried because she reacted so badly to the last ones (cried and wouldn't settle properly for 3 days after, very different to my older 2 who just "slept it off" after jabs). I don't want to needlessly delay jabs, and it is usually hard to get a jab slot at our GP, often a 3 week wait at least. But I don't want her to have all these things to battle in her little body at the same time...

What should I do?!

I’m assuming that if it’s her 12 week jabs then she is not getting her MenB jab this time, just 6-in-1 and rotavirus. Hopefully this means that she’ll react a little better than with the first set of jabs. I would say that if GP/nurse are happy to give her the jabs then I would go with their recommendation, particularly as her next 16 week set will be due soon. Keeping fingers crossed that she does well with them.

I would give the jabs. The first set are so much worse than the second I’m sure your baby will not react as badly as last time.
It’s horrid when they are poorly though, I hope your dd is better soon.

Thank you. Her 16 week ones will be pushed back too. They said they want at least 4 weeks between the sets, so 16 week ones will currently be at about 18 weeks. But yes, it would be better to keep as on track as possible.

Good point about it being fewer jabs this time. I'd assumed it was the same as last time, so that gives me some hope!

The 12 week ones are so much easier than the 8 and 16 week ones - it’s men B that lots of babies have a response too. I would give it - I know it’s hard when they’re poorly but better to have protection from those other illnesses than to delay I think.

KitKatCHA · 02/01/2019 09:21

Agreed, it's the men b that causes fever and feeling rough in lots of babies and it's not included in 12 week jabs. I would definitely get them done today. Get them to give her a quick once over beforehand to ease your mind.

Thanks all for your advice :) will ask them to give her a wee check then will go ahead with jabs if they're happy to. Thank you!
