Wax melts - I've been given some but don't have a burner

I've been given a box of wax melts (which actually look nice, like the sort of handmade thing you see at a craft fayre). However I don't have anything to burn /melt them in. A quick Google suggests I buy some ceramic thing and a bag of tea lights, or a fancy electrical thing.
I'm not sure what to buy- or whether to just donate them to a charity shop- so I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Personally I don't find them much cop compared to proper scented candles. But others may think differently.

I have an electric burner and I love it, I use them all the time. I buy them from eBay from a shop called melting hearts and they are fab

SeaGreenSeaGlass · 01/01/2019 22:53

Thanks, that's what I was wondering, whether after spending money on a burner I'd wish I hadn't bothered!

I love mine, they smell lovely and last for ages! I use a ceramic burner with a twilight in the bottom.
They also look lovely!

SeaGreenSeaGlass · 01/01/2019 22:54

Oh differing opinions - thank you!

I really like wax melts and find the smell is usually stronger than from a candle. The burners can be bought quite cheaply. Wilko do a nice square one for £3.50 and Asda have them for around a fiver. I wouldn’t bother with a plug in one unless you don’t want to use a tea light.

beanaseireann · 01/01/2019 22:56

They do smell stronger than a candle. I use a ceramic burner.

longtompot · 01/01/2019 22:58

I use some of mine in my hoover* bag so you get a lovely smell as you vacuum.

*other cleaner makes are available.

winteryslippers · 01/01/2019 23:03

Hoover bag??
Genius!!!!!!

Sitranced · 01/01/2019 23:18

I've cut/cracked them into larger unscented candles before just to use them up because, like you, I don't have a wax/oil burner. The wax tends to overflow a bit to the big candle but I just add extra tin foil to my lantern to catch the drips.

These are great ideas - thank you!

Oh I'm obsessed with melts op.
I have OCD ( diagnosed ) and one of my issues is smells and I used to spend a fortune on Yankee Candles and plug ins but for Christmas 2017 one of my best friends got me a set of melts and I was converted.

I have a mixture of burners, all different colours etc and several electric ones. They're pretty cheap to buy but I have quite a collection now.

I buy soy melts and love the variety of scents available. I go through phases where I love the Jo Malone scents and then the perfume ones and currently I'm loving the Christmas inspired ones.
There is so much out there.

I take a lot of pride in my home and love it when someone says it smells nice. The melts are really cheap to buy and they make me feel happy. Sad but true Blush

Calvinsmam · 02/01/2019 10:55

zoflora I’m the same. I get excited coming home to put my pjs and a wax melt on Grin

Starlight90 · 02/01/2019 12:56

You can buy a burner for under £2 in home Bargains

Justanothernamechange2 · 02/01/2019 13:01

I personally love mine.. you can get burners from around £2 at places like home bargains or b+m.. and a bunch of tealights for less than £1. Maybe try this + then if you enjoy it look into more ornate or electric burners. I have electric in the living room + tealight in the kitchen

Nottobesoldseparately · 02/01/2019 13:19

I love my melts.
I use electric burners but I do have non electric ones too.

I have them in bedrooms, the living room and the kitchen!

I use partylite burners and usually their melts, but I do buy cheap ones too, altho the smell isn't as strong or as lasting.

NoIAmSpartacus · 02/01/2019 13:23

Wilkos do a wax melt burner for about £3

TheBigBangRocks · 02/01/2019 13:27

I love mine too. Have an electric one as much safer and it has a timer so goes off on it's own.

Inspired now to go and look for new scents Grin

Thank you again, there are some great ideas here

Just be careful with tealight burners, especially cheap ones used with cheap tea lights.
I also use the partylite ones these days after a bad incident wth a cheaper tealight set I was gifted (burnt house was not the scent I was after!). Once you've used the wax the smart blends are worth a try, less messy!
