Do I really, really need a toastie machine?

Off on maternity leave, and a cheese and pesto toastie has become my go to lunch. I make it in one of those toastie bags, but it doesn't make the edges go crispy or bind together properly.

I've now spotted the Breville one on Amazon. I need this, don't I? Toasties and soup for quick teas after going back to work. Perfect toddler food....

DH says I could just keep on with the bags, but ffs the crispy edges

I have this one and I love it because it takes all breads/bagels/paninis etc

You need one. There is nothing like soup and a toastie for a snack.

LaBelleSausage · 02/01/2019 19:44

@Marmite27 the aunt Bessie’s stuff tastes like cardboard compared to the recipe that comes with the breville. Well worth a try

I have the Breville one and it’s fab. Cheese and jalapeño for me 👍

Allthepinkunicorns · 02/01/2019 19:49

I make mine in a frying pan, they are much nicer than toasty machine made ones.

AdaColeman · 02/01/2019 19:50

Yes, you need one. How else will you make hot banana and salted caramel triangles of deliciousness to brighten up cold wet winter mornings? (Extra points for pouring over brandy flavoured cream!)

tablelegs · 02/01/2019 19:52

Get the deep fill one. It's brilliant.

AndromedaPerseus · 02/01/2019 20:52

A recent discovery was quesadillas made in a sandwich toaster seals the gooey fillings and extra crispy outside

bluechameleon · 02/01/2019 20:59

Get one that has waffle plates too. I got one for my birthday and it gets used about once a week for either toasties or waffles. I love it.

evilharpy · 03/01/2019 00:01

I read this post at work and spent the rest of the day fantasising about a ham and smoked cheese toastie and getting no work done. I’ve ordered that Salter one.

Yulebealrite · 03/01/2019 00:51

That's the one I've got serial

so easy to clean

AWHereWeCome · 03/01/2019 07:34

Ooh I really want toasties and waffles now! But which should I buy? @Serialweightwatcher does the one you linked to have the waffle plates? I spent ages a few minutes looking on amazon last night but I couldn't figure out which one came with panini plates and waffles plates - are the panini plates different from toastie plates? Please excuse my toastie maker ignorance Grin

donquixotedelamancha · 03/01/2019 07:56

I have a George Foreman, it's brilliant and easy to clean.

This. Makes better toasties than a toastie maker and useful generally.

Racecardriver · 03/01/2019 08:02

My toddlers both hated toasties.

fussychica · 03/01/2019 10:16

Love toasties. Ours has dishwasher proof plates for easy cleaning. Left over bolognese sauce toasties are a family favourite here.

IShitGlitter · 03/01/2019 10:26

oh for Christ sake im ordering one right now I forgot how much I love toasties .....cheese beans and ham is a winner.

bsc · 03/01/2019 10:35

I've been looking at them for a few weeks, but can't decide which to get.
Has anyone got the ceramic breville one, and bought the other plates too?

StormTreader · 03/01/2019 10:40

I've had a breville one with scallops since my student days mumblety years ago. If you press the bread down into the scallops with the back of a spoon to make a bowl then you can crack an egg across them and have hard poached eggs on toast without the effort :D

Marmite27 · 03/01/2019 22:26

@LaBelleSausage thanks for the tip Flowers packet mixes are easier for baking with a toddler at the moment (all she wants to do is mix!) but I’m sure we’ll progress.

I forgot about the greaseproof paper today, cheese oil all over the worktop Angry

LaBelleSausage · 03/01/2019 22:29

Say no more! I make it the night before when DS is in bed so he can’t help, then leave it in the fridge until morning Grin

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 03/01/2019 22:35

Another vote for the Breville deep fill. Bought one a few months ago, DH v sceptical. It's the most heavily used item in the house Wink

greyspottedgoose · 03/01/2019 22:41

Ham cheese & pineapple 😍😍

franke · 03/01/2019 22:43

Yes, you need one. I got a basic Breville free with a stationery order about 20 years ago. It's still going strong 🤞🏻although a bit scratched.

The thread I remember had everyone cooking little cakes in their sandwich toasters. My 14yo does this every now and again.

I bloody love toasties. And cakes.
