Hi, sorry I’ve tried searching on here but having a little trouble! In a nutshell, Hubby and I really do not get on anymore. Xmas eve he tells me he dreads spending Xmas with me. NYE tells me he wants a divorce. Married 18 years, 3 kids 16,15 & 9. Who should I speak to first? A solicitor for a free 30 minute chat or mediation? I think finances will be difficult / confusing to sort out. I only work part time earn about £350 a month - no way I could afford a property or bills . Where do I start?? Thanks

I'm sorry to read this, it's an awful time for you. Someone will be along shortly with lots of help and advice but I think seeing a shit hot solicitor is your absolute priority.

Thanks. Don’t know where to turn first to be honest. Maybe Relate for counselling?

Relate can be very helpful but there's usually a waiting list. Do you have some close friends or family who you can turn to for support. You definitely need a solicitor asap. Don't whatever you do, agree to anything. Stay strong. Flowers

It deoends.

Is he depressed? If so he needs to see a gp.

If he's asked for a divorce then there's not a lot you can do unless he wants to work on it.

I'd suggest a break to see if that is what's gonna be best

If you have kids you'll be entitled to wtc etc.

You might get more responses in the divorce\separation forum.

Just saw you have kids

So you'd be entitled to all the benefits, rent paid etc.

In a divorce youd be entitled to half or more of the house, savings and pension fund.

Thanks all. I have found a number for a solicitor who I will phone tomorrow. I might also try the Relate online chat thing.

I used relate online to try and make sense of it all. It helped me
