Do you prefer male or female vocals in music?

Generally speaking that is. I was having this discussion with a friend prompted by her, and I'm curious If you have a preference which do you prefer?

I prefer male vocalists because I mostly listen to metal/industrial metal and hard rock and for those genres I favour relatively deep and harsh tones.

My DD asked me why I listen to men singing more than women.

I hadn't realised but it's true. Having thought about it more I think it's because I can sing along with the pitch guy's tend to to sing at.

I want to an alto in the quoir at shool but I mimed a lot. I should've been in with the tenors!

I like big doomy voices of either sex. I probably listen to more male voices just because there are more male singers.

Go and google "best [insert genre] artists/bands of all" and count how many are equally represented by females and males. I would guess maybe R&B, maybe jazz singers. Pop would probably have more women.

Classic Rock will be dominated by men
Hip-hop will be dominated by men
Folk will be dominated by men
Soul will be dominated by men
Punk will be dominated by men
Funk will be dominated by men
Indie Rock will be dominated by men
Reggae will be dominated by men
Electronic music will be dominated by men

etc. etc. etc.

So even though I don't have any preference either way, most of what I listen to is men.

Country has a good representation of women and I do like a country vocal.

Generally male because I prefer the deeper, warmer tones.

Female
