Advice on whether I should buy a baby swing.

Happy new year all! Flowers

I really need to know if it’s worth it, and worth me spending about 100 ish on.

My baby is one month old and because of c section being single and living in a rural area I’ve had family help, they’re going back to work soon as I can drive. I’m very lucky I’ve had their support.

Now I know these swings only last 5 months but are they a good investment?, I have bouncer chair but it doesn’t soothe her, don’t think she’s keen on the vibrat I bought just a cheap one.

She loves movement and sleeps when rocked, or in pram or car seat pretty quickly.

Should I buy?

I will order today if mostly positive experiences but they are pretty pricey at 100 +

It was absolutely the best thing we ever bought for DS. We got ours second hand though so it wasn't £££. It lasted him longer than 5 months too.

I have just been gifted the mamas and papas starlite one from sil. I also bought a basic cheap bouncer but remembered by db found their swing invaluable with both nieces so thought it would be a good idea to get one.

Cant report back as dd not arriving until next week but i know db and sil found theirs a life saver. A friend at work said the same too.

Have a look on your local Facebook marketplace. People are always selling them second hand for much cheaper and all the fabrics go in the washer so you can be sure they are clean.

Just to counterbalance, we spent about £50 on one and DD slept in it once... other than that it was 5 mins entertainment a couple of times. Total waste of money for us. But if it works for you it's definitely worth it, I second trying Facebook marketplace though, loads cheaper!

Mine was great for when I needed to grab a few minutes to do something or for a short nap. Definitely worth it as the movement soothes them.

Mine was great but I had one that lasted a long time. I would strap the dc in, plonk them in front of CBeebies and get on with a few things.

Onceihadaname · 01/01/2019 16:37

Got one for my eldest who hated it and it was a disaster. Didn't bother for the next dc.
Every kid is different and if you have spare money it may be the best thing ever but if money is tight you are most definately not missing out

Do check marketplace. Lots of people are clearing out to make room for toys just now so you might pick up a bargain.

They don't work for all babies but most I've looked after have liked them.

I didn’t like my DD sleeping in it for long but it did save my sanity when I needed to shower/cook/make a cup of tea. Would agree about getting a second hand one

Thanks ladies! And thanks about market place tip! Because I work at mothercare I have bought loads new but it is so daft! I literally found the one I want from mother care for 50 instead of 150! I will buy it. Will stick to hand hand from now on!
