Should I take dd(5) to the drs?

She’s had a slight but persistent temperature since breaking up from school 10 days ago.
She’s tired (not that she’s admitting it!) and not wanting to do much.
She’s got noticeable bags under her eyes and just looks very tired.
She’s also seeking out a lot of comfort - wants to be hugged or sit on our knees all the time and snuggling her old comfort blanket for the first time in ages.
She’s had very energetic moments especially when we’ve had visitors but her behaviour at these times is more ‘extreme’ and whiny than normal so I think she’s still overtired.

She’s in reception so just finished her first term at school. I thought she was just shattered from this but I thought she’s have a bit more energy by now.
Do you think I should take her to the dr even though she hasn’t really got any other symptoms?

Maybe a virus? Not sure I'd go to the doctors with it.

HolyMountain · 01/01/2019 14:11

Is she sleeping well and still very tired?
Eating well?
Bowel movements and urine ok?

I’d take her just for a once over by a GP.

Thistles24 · 01/01/2019 14:12

I would, 10 days is quite a long time to have a fever.

No I’d wait till I had some symptoms or till all the little things added up to me suddenly being proper worried. For what you describe no way would I go to the doc. But you are not me and you are seeing the child not me.

BrrrIsland · 01/01/2019 14:15

She’s sleeping ok and waking up fairly late but she’s complaining of growing pains in her leg at night so I think that’s bothering her.
She’s never been much of an eater but is picking at food as usual and is drinking lots.
Bowel movement seem ok too.

I would try a day of intensive resting to try to beat it off

Calpol every 4 hrs, nutritious and comforting foods, duvet on the sofa, films/super monsters/paw patrol etc.

As many cuddles, naps as she wants.

Its possible that a virus added to all the over excitement of the holidays had just worn down her reserves. My DD has been similar, already tired because of schol, then all the outings, activities, presents, visits from family........ Its just been too much.

BrrrIsland · 01/01/2019 14:23

Thanks all.
Auntiepatricia im not feeling very worried yet but I do feel like there’s something not right although I can’t put my finger on what it is.

I would take her to the docs, better to be safe than sorry. Persistent leg pain needs to be checked. We had the same and our gp said more than 2 out of 7 days of night leg pain needs to be checked and the fact that she hasn't picked up during the school holidays needs to be checked.

Docs would never mind giving a child a check over.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 01/01/2019 14:24

perhaps she needs iron tablets? does she eat meat and greens?

GaryBaldbiscuit · 01/01/2019 14:24

christmas is exhausting for reception age

SueGeneris · 01/01/2019 14:26

I would take her on the basis of the persistent fever plus your instinct that something isn't right.

chickhonhoneybabe · 01/01/2019 14:26

I’d take her especially as she’s having leg pain. I’d also give her a children’s multi vitamin to try and perk her up a bit.

Magstermay · 01/01/2019 14:29

I’d take her, 10 days is quite a long time for something to grumble on and I’m sure the doctor would rather see something mild than waiting to see if it becomes serious.

Bound · 01/01/2019 14:30

Mum instincts. Trust them and take her.

BrrrIsland · 01/01/2019 14:32

Thanks.
I was thinking maybe iron. She eats greens but she won’t touch meat other than chicken. I have been giving her vitamins.

I’ll call the drs tomorrow and maybe ask for a call back before making an appointment.

Thanks everyone. I guess it’s better to make an appointment for what could just be tiredness than to miss something potentially bigger.

Yes I would take her and get her checked

HolyMountain · 01/01/2019 14:38

I would add a liquid iron supplement to her diet and some vitamin D during the winter.

Hope you manage to speak to or see a GP.

Pythonesque · 01/01/2019 14:49

Sounds reasonable to get her checked over. You've given her a chunk of time to recover from school and you're concerned.
