I don't but thought it'd be nice to have one...

Or do you just sleep off the night before? Grin

Eat bacon butties and whimper in the corner most of the day.
Revive enough to make a family dinner usually steak pie (shop bought, so what) for tea. Watch a film.
Scottish so have tomorrow off as well which is when the restorative Big Walk usually occurs. We def need the 2 days to recover here!! Grin

dontneedthedrama · 01/01/2019 13:37

concretesieve · 01/01/2019 13:44

hmmwhatatodo Go for it Grin Seriously, there's lots of great established traditions or just start some of your own! They're always nice to look back on and carry on.

SlowNorris · 01/01/2019 13:48

There are 1039448392 reasons to move to Scotland, I’m so jealous tomorrow is a bank holiday there.

What Scottish traditions exist for NYD?

We have another Christmas dinner and watch films all day.

IMissGin · 01/01/2019 13:53

Steak pie, cherry cake & snowballs in my family. First footing. Party games. Kilts. I love it. It’s like Christmas with out the presents

FuzzyShadowChatter · 01/01/2019 13:57

TheRhythmlessCarolMan It was a spambot, one of those 'make £XYZ from home' scams.

allupsidedown · 01/01/2019 14:01

Scottish so lots of traditions here. Hogmanay we usually party with neighbours. We went four streets away this year then first footed other houses until about 5:30 am. Last few years we had to draw straws to see who went home early with the kids but this year even the 4 year old lasted until about 3am.
On New Year's Day, We all congregate in the oldest family members house on New Year's Day. This is now Mil and Fil house. A tall dark man is supposed to be lucky to first foot you so DH usually goes in first. We take a first footing gift of a new calendar every year to Mil. Others bring her a new soap or something else practical. My sister just first footed us with a toilet brush! Grin She is our taxi to Mil's house!
We will have steak pie and clootie dumpling for afterwards.
No work for a few days but we should all be sober by the time we return to work on Thursday!

SlowNorris · 01/01/2019 14:15

That sounds wonderful, allupsidedown. Clootie dumpling sounds especially amazing. God I wish I was Scottish!

mamaduckbone · 01/01/2019 14:21

Usually bacon butties, a big walk and films / snoozing in the afternoon. I also started the tradition a few years ago of writing a list of all the things we enjoyed in the year just past and deciding on a couple of things we want to do in the new one, which is nice.

Littlegoth · 01/01/2019 16:56

A walk in the park, haggis supper

Atalune · 01/01/2019 17:00

Last start
Brunch
Beach walk
Ice creams
Film and sofa and dirty food for dinner

FrogFairy · 01/01/2019 17:16

@Bluesheep8 are you able to share your MIL’s Austrian goulash recipe please, or is it a family secret? I have looked on Googled and it looks delicious but always nice to know a recommended recipe.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 01/01/2019 17:29

I finally had a shower and put clean clothes on, but then that was more to be less disgusting than any tradition GrinGrinGrin

IndigoSpritz · 01/01/2019 17:41

A fairly recent one for me is that the first record/song I like to play on NYD is Morning Has Broken by Cat Stevens. It seems an appropriate start for a year, but it took me until about 10 o'clock this morning before I found it on my phone ! I think that's the only one. If I hadn't been at the office so early this morning I'd have gone to Wetherspoon's at mid-morning for the All Day Brunch. I've done that on NYD in years past.

trinity0097 · 01/01/2019 17:46

I go to work. Boss came in as well around lunchtime.

I don’t stay up for new year eve, so it’s just a normal day to me!

Fluffyears · 01/01/2019 18:12

Went for a 2 1/2 hour walk, then a butchers steak pie (which is practically the law in Scotland). The house is cleaned thoroughly on Hogmanay so that the New Year starts as you mean to go on.
