It's new years eve and I'm in bed with the worst back pain I could have imagined. I'm not sure what's caused it but the pain is worse than child birth and gallstones. I can barely move and god knows what I'm going to do when I need the loo.

Can I please get some tips on how to deal with back pain and a gentle kick up the bum. I'm feeling really sorry for myself, I want to cry and I'm feeling pathetic and alone.

Sorry for the rant.

Just reiterating the advice to keep moving as often as you can. I’ve had muscle spasms in my back three times. The third time I had to get a doctor to the house - I’ve never ever done it before but I couldn’t move. She injected an anti inflammatory and the relief was amazing. Took a good few days to be properly mobile but could at least go to the toilet .

How are you this morning?

Hope you are getting the help you need. I was like you were for a couple of days until I got some stronger drugs. Felt a bit more in control yesterday although still painful it was no longer excruciating. Today, after reading the advice on your thread, I decided to get moving, went for a 20 minute hobble and now just pottering around the house. I feel it is helping. I wouldn't have coped without my DH. Call 111 or go to a and E if you need extra help.

Hi all. Thank you so much for keeping me company. Firstly I'm sorry to hear that other people also suffer like this. It really is awful.

I ended calling 111 at around 5am. They called an ambulance for me, who sent a rapid responder type person.

He was amazing, he gave me some stronger painkillers. He explained that he wasn't too concerned but wanted me to see a doctor asap to be on the safe side.
He made a few calls and as everyone was really busy, however he managed to organise for the OOH doctor to call in on her way home to avoid me having to go to hospital.

The OOH doctor was extremely nice and understanding. She's prescribed some stronger painkillers and anti-inflammatories, ensured that I could walk to the loo and has advised that I rest but move frequently even if it is just hobbling to the loo and back.

She's told me to see my regular GP tomorrow and given me a checklist of things to look out for.

I told a friend who has collected the prescriptions for me and has made sure I'm as comfortable as possible. She'll also be popping in this evening to check on me.

Thank you again everyone Flowers

Thanks for updating Netflix. I'm sorry to hear you are still suffering but relieved to hear that you have been seen and that there are no serious immediate concerns and that you are being looked after.

Get well soon ... and a Happy New Year x

It must be really insufferable but I'm so pleased the NHS machine has been working well for you Flowers
